I think Farley will be the back up qb. The only way you gain experience is to get in there and do it. He will get plenty of reps in practice and some at the end of games. Another year starting on jv and taking charge of the backup role on varsity this year, and I think he will be ready to go for his junior year. The kid has alot of talent.

I think Bobby Mckee will be the back up he is ready.

Tyler Farley will be the back up. I guarantee it, he will be the starter in 09', Hoof will want him to get atleast some experience this year.

Mckee is an untapped talent that is being overlooked quite often. He shut his reciever down in the LCA game. That's one of the few games he actually made an appearance in. He has got the hands to be a great receiver and is always a dangerous option at Qb from what I have heard. Why would you not use talent ? Would love to have this kid over in Raider Country. We would sure use him.

He should be the jv qb that is what I said but he is not ready for the varsity team yet if you watched him play last year you would understand he did have some good games but the wideouts and running backs bailed him out alot. Another year at jv and even somedown on the freshmen team will help him alot yes he will come in on the varsity team for mop up duty if Raceland is winning big or the other way around(dont see that happening this year).This is only my thoughts.

I think Raceland will be better this year then last year if not better then the 2006 team. I think Raceland will have one the most dangerous offenses in the state. They have two outstanding running backs with Denton and Carver! The special teams and defense will be really good as well. Everything seems to be falling in place as well. From what I have heard so far they have had a great winter and making great gains in the weight room.

Raceland has the potential to be better than the 06 team this year but I wouldnt count my eggs before they hatch rams78. The 06' team is in a completely different league then the 07' team. The 06' team played in the 4 class system, which is much more difficult to compete in than the watered down 6 class system. They had a complete team that year with one of the most high scoring offenses in the class A and the top ranked defense in class A. Raceland lead the region in wins, total points scored, and total points allowed in 06' despite losing in the regional championship to NCC (eventual state champs). They had two all-state players and 11 all district players. The rams of 2006 tied for the best team in school history. No matter what anybody says, you cant take that away from them, along with the 87 team, they are the best RHS team of all-time. Their record and stats are proof of that. My point is, this years team has a long way to go before they get to that level. I have no doubt in my mind that they can be as good, if not better, than the 2006 team but they arent there yet. It takes alot of hard work in the weight room this winter and a great summer. Its not all about talent, they also need to develope some leaders. The seniors on the 2008 team arent vocal leaders, and people can say what they want about players leading by "example" and what not, but being a vocal leader and keeping the other guys in line and focused is a huge key for success. The 06' team had those type leaders, im not sure if 2008 rams do right now. They have all the talent in the world, a great coaching staff, and an absolute beast at running back (Denton)....but they need to develop the intangibles it takes to win championships. Those boys are gonna need to grow into men by August, because I guarantee the guys up at Beechwood and LCA are working just as hard. I hope they get there because I really think this team has a shot at making it to the Pizza Box!

:thumb: You are right on with this post Ramcat!! 08 has the potential to be a special year for Ram Football and it will take a total TEAM sacrifice to make it happen. Each individual has to become one and believe 100% in what the coaching staff is teaching.

One area I would like to see the Rams improve from last year is becoming a more disciplined football team. Last year saw way too many penalities. It is a tough thing to ask young kids to do but it is part of the intangibles that you mentioned.

I'm sure the coaches and players are working hard and as a long time Ram fan I am looking forward to that first coin toss.

Also, state championship contenders dont lose games to teams that they have no business losing to. Example, the loses last year against East and West carter, should have never happened. No offense to East or West but IMO Raceland had no business losing to either of those teams last year. I felt like the Rams last year just showed up and played when they felt like it, they didnt bring it every friday night. If they want to have a shot at going to Louisville or even have a shot at beating the 87' & 06' team records, then they cant take games off. Also, they need to show some emotion out there. I felt like there were times last year when they were lifeless out there on the field. But once again, this all goes back to leadership. They must develope some leaders in the senior class. You can say what you want but nothing get a team ready to go then a senior leader, who has the respect of his peers, steps up and gets the other guys in gear for the games. What Im saying is, they need to bring their A game every friday night because every school in this area is going to bring their A game when they play the Rams. We have had alot of good teams in our schools history but now its time to get over the hump and this years team has that capability. The playoff system is more favorable now than it has ever been for us and we have ALOT of talent coming back. Its not going to be easy but if they get their heads on straight and learn that football isnt about making friends, its about punishing the other team and winning at all costs, then they will have a shot to be great. But until someone lights a fire under this team, they will be average, just like in 07'.

I may be wrong, but this group of seniors in very unselfish. You will not hear animosity from players toward other players. Bret Denton cheers for John Scott Carver and Johns Scott Carver cheers for Bret Denton. Many times when you have two talented backs in the same back field, you see some animosity, but these two work together, as they should. The same is true for the linemen, they know they have a job and they do it.

 

I agree, they desperately need a vocal leader of two. I hope some of those players step up and become the face of the 2008 Rams. Raceland will have the coaching staff for success this year, they will have the talent, all they need is the emotion. They showed a glimmer of it in the district championship game last year, they need to carry that over and intensify it going into spring practice.

 

I have been told that the some players are leading in the winter program, I hope they continue that and build upon it.

 

Senior leaders can not be replaced and they are not born, they are self made. They have to have the desire to lead, and they have to lead by example for the younger players to want to follow.

RamCat, you are absolutely correct, you can not loose games that you should win, if you want to be successful. Last years team made a habit of playing to the level of the opposition. If you want to be a contender, you have to play every game as if it was the championship game, their is no givemes.

 

No disrespect to anyone, but Raceland lost some games that they should not have lost. Raceland has to play equally and consistently no matter who the opponent is. 15 games and 15 championship efforts, that is what it will take for the 2008 Rams to live up to their potential.
