16th Region Rankings

Why were they fortunate, and why should they have lost in regulation? I know I'm getting old, but if my memory serves me correctly, Bath County is the one that made the last second shot to send the game into overtime.

I just meant that Bath had alot of opportunities - especially the way they played the first half.

Problem is they play 2 halves. I think Rose Hill should have won by a bunch if they had played better in the first half.

Let me ask this question if Elliott is the most talented team in the region and they lose in the district or regional tournament then they will still be the most talented team, correct? I mean talent doesn't change in 1 month. So even if someone else wins the region are you guys still going to rank them #1?

The one thing that is certain is that Elliott and Rose Hill have played in one tournament together and they have went head to head once and Rose Hill came out on top.

Rank them however you wish I'm packing my bags for Richmond.:ylsuper:

I'm just not understanding most of these rankings (at least at the top). You're saying how great Elliott, East and Bath are in one sentence (and I agree that those teams are very, very good), and then Rose Hill defeats not one but TWO of them in less than a week's time, and they're not in the top spot now? I'm sorry but you have to get over the disdain for Rose Hill and give them credit for what they just did. I see the Rose Hill posters give credit to these other teams when they win, and they should expect a little love back when they do something great.

I do believe that Elliott, Rose Hill, East Carter and Bath are very good teams this year and anyone of them could win the region. I don't even remember the last time the region had four teams at one time close to this level. And it's making for fun and exciting basketball. I respect the heck out of Ellt, EC and Bath, but at the same time you got to respect Rose Hill too. They're not close to the team they were earlier in the year when Bath beat them and they lost several games. They've improved mightily with the schedule they played, and are now at the level of the other elite teams in the region. At the worst they should be 1a and 1b with elliott, and then East and Bath are

2a and 2b.

And I agree with what one poster said; how great it is to have all the little schools be this good? I do love it.

So, you really think that East is better than Rose Hill? You do recall, son, that East lost to Elliott by 1 and Rose Hill beat Elliott by 7 if I'm not mistaken. Yet you rank them opposite. I've only seen East play one time this season, and frankly I don't think that they can beat Bath. So, I'll disagree with your top 4 order, but agree everywhere else. I say Elliott, Rose Hill, Bath, East. What a wonderful thing. All of those small schools at the top.

Only in America, baby! I always wanted to use that little banana. If you could give that little banana some electrified hair, he'd be perfect.

Yes I do son.

East Carter has been far more consistent than Rose Hill throughout the season. Rose Hill had a great week and has the two most talented players in the region but I still think East is a better team.

East Carter has one win over a team whose record is over .500, and that is Raceland whom they beat by 4. Three of the four losses have come against Fairview and Elliott County who Rose Hill is 2-0 against.

Wrong. They have 3 wins against teams that have a record over .500. They have beaten West Carter twice.

You are correct, I missed those two wins. Rose Hill is still better though, and I think you'll agree after East loses to Ashland tonight. :p

I doubt East loses to Ashland. But anything is possible.

1.Elliott- 1 loss while shooting so horribly (still came close)

2.Bath- better (team) than RH

3.Rose Hill- can't deny after this week

4.East- don't know why(guess because everyone thinks so, but who have they beaten)

5.Raceland- Sparks and Boyles are good combo

6.West- always tough at home

7.Boyd- playing better and has a nice big man

8.Ashland- Thomas makes them a hard out

9.Fairview- go as the guards go, need a tight called game where guards sink it at the line

10.Rowan- led by another quality big man

11.Morgan- coached by one of the best in region

12.Lewis- better than record, another tough out at home

13.Fleming- I really dont know a lot about them

14.Greenup- can still beat the bottom 2 teams

15&16- tie between Russell and Menifee. Not sure who would win, Russell losing Ferguson hurts.

Just my own thoughts.

After thinking about my first post and reading all the post on here, I'll give the rankings a stab.

1. Elliott- most talented team in the region 1-3. Faulkners and Ferguson will have to take them all the way, unless young Knipp steps up and becomes the player he can be.

2. Rose Hill- 2nd best team, IMO, they have the best 1-2 punch in the region, one of the tops in the state as well. If they keep Euton on the blocks, I would probably take them head to head again with Elliott, as he would be a tough matchup for the Lions. Plus we all know that Jackson is a nightmare to try to defend for an entire game. Other players have stepped up, but will have to continue to contribute for this team to go to Lexington.

3. East Carter- Here's where i disagree with most posters. I think they are better than Bath. They are deeper, better inside play, play great defense, and have all the ingredients of a good team. I think their starting 5 is comparable to Elliott's, they may not have the big names but they have a little bit of everything. They have a skilled big man in Barnhill, a brusing forward in Seagraves, do it all playmaker in Johnson, Jackson is a good shooter, and Bair is a athletic guard to comliment the other 4. Plus, Baker is an excellent coach, as good as there is in this area.

4. Bath- Well coached, but outside of Clemmons and Metz, I dont think they are quite as good as the 3 teams above them. Clemmons has been very underrated all season though, he can score at will. Outside of those two the other players seem like they are afraid to shoot or make a turnover. While they are a good team, and could beat anyone on a given night, I dont think they will have enough to be a serious threat to take the title if a few more players dont step up. But hey, I have been wrong before.

The rest of the region is tough to decide though:

5. Raceland-Here because of consistency. They beat the teams they are suppose to beat and have what seems to be good team chemistry.

6. West-If they were more consistent they would be #5, IMO. Can be a very good defensive team at times, but they really need more scoring. It will be hard to beat some of the better teams in this region scoring 50 points.

7. Fairview- Good guard play. Cooksey will have his boys ready at tournament time. If Hall is on, they can play with anybody.

8. Ashland- 2nd most inconsistent team in the region. They need more production from those not named Matt Thomas.

9. Morgan- Coach Perry has brought this team along nicely. Won't be an easy out come tournament time......62nd distict tournament should be a thriller.

10. Boyd- Will go as far as Selby takes them.

11. Rowan- Beat GRC they have athletic guards, and size with Pettitt.

12. Lewis- No one wants to play Hampton in March. He gets more out of his players than anyone, imo.

13. Fleming- Young team that is improving game by game.

14. Greenup- toss up with Russell.

15. Russell- see above.

16. Menifee- Only seen them twice, but neither game was pretty.

1.Elliott- 1 loss while shooting so horribly (still came close)

2.Bath- better (team) than RH

3.Rose Hill- can't deny after this week

4.East- don't know why(guess because everyone thinks so, but who have they beaten)

Just my own thoughts.

Basically everyone below them!!

Can anyone understand Rose Hill BEAT Elliott County? They earned it, Elliott did lose not because of only bad shooting (Perhaps maybe just maybe because Rose Hill played pretty darn good defense?) they got outplay and because Rose Hill out played them Rose Hill beat them!

I'll take a stab at it:

1 Elliott County

2 East Carter

3 Bath County

4 Rose Hill

5 Fairview

6 Raceland

7 West Carter

8 Boyd County

9 Morgan County

10 Ashland

11 Rowan County

12 Lewis County

13 Fleming County

14 Russell

15 Greenup County

16 Menifee County

Not bad, BC beat West twice

Here is my reasoning...

- Did Rose Hill beat Elliott or did Elliott beat themselves by not changing the gameplan and missing too many shots?

- East Carter has the defense and coaching that could possibly win the regional tournament

- Bath County beat Rose Hill bad once and then lost a heartbreaker in OT the second matchup

- Rose Hill has been inconsistent all season and rely too heavily on 2 players. They have came on strong lately, but will it continue? Will they continue to get the points from the other players that they managed to get against Elliott?

Many people are already pencilling Elliott vs. Rose Hill in for the regional championship, but I'm not quite convinced that East Carter doesn't have the best chance to win.

I will agree that East has a shot, but so does a few other teams. If Elliott shot bad maybe it was because of good defense from Rose Hill

I thought a weekly poll, such as this one, normally ranks on how a team is currently playing and not as much on how a team has played in the past. Only the most ardent detractor can deny Rose Hill is playing the best basketball over the past two weeks of all the schools in the 16th. I’m not saying they are the best, but they did beat the best. When it is all said and done these polls mean nothing. What really matters is winning championships. And Rose Hill is playing in the All-A tournament this weekend.
