AverageJoesGym
Jumper Dad, Who is going to be the QB? Is it Manning or will they go with youth? Spears will be the starting QB. Spears has been taking snaps. I'm not sure if he'll be ready to go by the opening game or not but he'll be the quarterback.
AverageJoesGym
Does anybody have any information on the 2 new members of the Jumper football team? Just curious. Bucknut I've got a couple of linemen sitting here playing NCAA 09 right now and they don't know of any new kids on the team except for incoming Freshmen from Science Hill and one from Northern. They aren't the most observant two right now but that's their story--I'll check again at halftime.
Jumper_Dad
Jumper Dad, Who is going to be the QB? Is it Manning or will they go with youth? Spears looks to be the QB. As for Manning or youth I don't understand your question, Manning is just a Soph, that would be youth in my book.
Maroon Fan
I wasn't certain of his age.... apologies...did not mean to offend you or confuse you with my Jedi mind question. I had forgotton about Spears...Didn't have an injury or something in the spring? I will ask Average Joe this time.

He still may not be ready to go right off the bat but the kids say that he has looked good so far in practice.

GC. linebacker34
Somerset lost a lot to graduation. Couple that with the fact that they only had I believe 8 Juniors on the roster and the 2008 Jumpers will be very young and dominated by Sophmores and Juniors. That said there are some good athletes in those 2 classes and the rising Freshman went 9-0 and won their conference. They should be okay in a weak district but probaby won't be a factor on a regional or state level. Somerset wont have the dominince that has been shown in the past. After loosing all major offensive threats scoring will be a problem. As far as a weak district Wayne county is pre- season top 10 in class 3-A. Garrard county returns all but one starter on defense and will have more speed than any other team in the district. Somerset will have to fight for second possible third. Wasn't offended, just making a point that after Spears everyone else is a youth move.

At least that will give you an easy week of practice, no reason to work on anything during the week of the Somerset game.

Anyway, I didn't say that Somerset would win the District, just that they'd be okay. It is a weak district without any physically imposing teams or serious title contenders, there may be some solid teams but no Belfrys or Centrals. Bubba Wilson
Somerset maybe a young squad this season, but they do have some solid young talent. Factor in their tradition and coaching staff and that all adds up to a pretty good football team. I doubt they will win 10 games this season, but I would not be surprised to see them win 8 games. How are the freshman fitting in to the big picture? I suspect several of them will see varsity minutes this season.
jumper1
How are the freshman fitting in to the big picture? I suspect several of them will see varsity minutes this season. My opinion is that T. Slaughter starts from day one! Don't know what position but the kid is too good to be on the sidelines. S. Wilson will also see significant playing time. Jumper_Dad
I think they both will play a lot and either could get a chance to start early. Storm may actually have a better chance to start since top two receivers from last year are gone. As far as the rest of the freshmen go, they are working hard and just trying to adjust to playing with the big boys. Look for the Jumpers to place loose this year and have a lot of fun. That is a talented Jumper class. I will eagerly follow their progress as they continue to develope thru high school. I agree, Slaughter will have to play somewhere this season. Jumper_Dad
It depends on where they put him on D. He may actually have a better chance at starting at nose or DE than at LB where most are projecting him. I would love to see his speed coming off of the corner at DE.
