Why all this hatred for the Mannings on BGP? I really don't get it. Not a fan of the Colts or the Giants but I like Peyton (good guy, funny commercials, great QB) and Eli has pulled a 180 for me during this playoff run. I don't get it. :confused:

I'm of the opinion a lot of teams are scared of the Colts uniform and are psyched out before they ever play Peyton and Co. After all, they've been told by every talking head out there with a Peyton Man Crush that he and the Colts are the greatest thing since sliced bread. The deification of the Colts by the national media has gone completely overboard in this area.

 

This season, with a weakened defense because of a missing Freeney and an oft-injured Sanders, the Colts should've lost many more games than what they did, but got over because other teams lay down for the Colts jersey. I don't think they are any better than Tennessee or Jax, they just have the mental edge because they've owned those teams in recent years. Once those two and Houston figure out Indy isn't any better than them, the Colts will finally fade away to welcomed obscurity.

 

I personally feel that the mental aspect of the game is just as important and just as relevant in deciding whether a team is good or not. You can't say the Colts are a lesser team because they are mentally tougher than their opponents. In my view, it's the same thing as saying "I could beat Michael Johnson if I were faster than him."

 

I agree with your assessment of their playoff run last year and not being challenged in the Super Bowl, but I think most would agree that the AFC has been a bit stronger than the NFC in recent years, so their toughest challenge would have probably been in the playoffs. I also think their victory over NE was legit. NE is one of the tougher teams, especially mentally, they didn't just roll over; Indy beat them.

 

But the Colts definitely choked this year.

As did the Steelers, Cowboys, and Packers, all at home. So I guess Roethlisberger, Romo, and Favre suck.

 

Neither Roethlisberger nor Favre have a history of choking in the postseason the way Peyton does, so that shoots your statement all full of holes. Jury's still out on Romo.

Jim doesn't like anyone or anything unless no one else has ever heard of it or them.

Sometimes I wonder if Jim is one of my best friends. It's scary how their taste in music, always being right, finding a way to rain on a parade and love for the Steelers are exactly alike. That's good and bad Jim. For the record I'd go to the grave for my buddy and he would do the same for me so we grew on each other.

I have nothing against Eli, other than his extremely poor performance for me this year in the BGP Expansion league.

 

Peyton, I've disliked him since his freshman year at UT.

If that's aimed toward me, yes, he did. But he hasn't made a career of gagging on the big one like Peyton has.

1 - I don't think that last year's title run was a fluke. It was a team that realized to win a title you have to find some defense and a running game. They did, and they won

 

2 - I don't think they choked this year. They obviously were playing a hot SD team, lost their defense, and gave up on the running game. They were banged up for a ton of this past season, and that said, they had a sniff at running the whole thing as well.

 

I think next season will they have an amazing shot to truly fire on all cylinders.

Actually he has. You see when you play as long a Favre, for every good record you have, there are some auspicious ones as well, ie...the INT record.

Let's not forget that many of the games they supposedly "choked" were against the soon to be SB champs Patriots.

 

As for this year, they lose their best WR, best DL, break in a new starter at RB, and still manage to get to the divisional round. How many teams can we say would be in that position with those losses?

Only a long-time Colts fan like me can tell you what it was like before Peyton Manning, when the Colts were the "Dolts" to Chris Berman and were rarely a factor in the division race.

 

The Colts have won five straight division championships and posted five straight 12-win seasons (an NFL record) and won our first Super Bowl since 1970.

 

The Colts went on the road to upset Baltimore last year and DOMINATED the game defensively. There's no way that Baltimore "should" have won that game with absolutely, positively no offense.

 

The Colts went into New England and overcame a poor start to win the championship. The Patriots didn't let up. They were dog tired in the fourth quarter when the Colts were moving up and down the field. You can always look at a game two ways. If the Colts hadn't have played so bad early, they could have won easily.

 

I had little doubt the Colts would win the Super Bowl after that. Chicago wasn't one of the best teams to play in the Super Bowl, but the Colts and all of their fans will take it. We'll back be back next year.

Tennesse has beaten the Colts for the last two years. Houston has beaten them once. You have to win the most games to go to the playoffs then SB. You can't just believe your way to the big game. The Colts have won many games despite many injuries as you have said. It's not because other teams lay down, it's a will to win. And the better team usually does that. Just like the Colts did last year when they beat the Pats and the Bears.
