Walton Verona 66 Carroll County 50

Recommended Posts

I agree with almost everything so far said. WV has been playing great, but watching this game, it wasn't a "pretty" win. Carroll County did shoot well at all! Girdy had early foul trouble and was out of control sometimes. If Carroll would have just played their style of play it would have been a game and a half! Walton had so many turn-overs. I'm not going to give out stats tonight just because they aren't pretty. But on the bright side, Walton WON! Yay! :thumb: I'm glad that we just got a win. They had an off night, and still came out on top.

Anyone know where Dixon and Sargent were in second half?? Hargett played a solid all around game, needed her to step up and she did! Heeger didn't get many shots (past, shoots well at Trimble) but who knows!? Any answers out there.

Go Walton Verona! I'm so glad you all came out on top!

Rich....(WHAT)....Mond!

Sometimes players have off nights or just don't show-up. But the sign of a good team is others stepping-up in their place. That's what Krahl did.

You can post that again! She step'd up HUGE in this game. She changed they whole out-look in this game. Great Job Krahl.

But you say they had off nights, but Dixon and Sargent didn't see much floor. Dixon got in early foul trouble, but I was shocked she didn't come back in and own that paint, as she normally does!! :jump:

I thought this was the difference in the game:

Krahl 17

Ginn 9

Cheesman 8

Krahl really impressed me. She hustled and attacked the basket great. She really adds some toughness that this WV team has been lacking in the past.

If they take care of business Friday and Saturday they can win at least one in Richmond.:thumb:

I agree. That's the sign of a great team. Walton is deep and will be a tough match up for a lot of teams the rest of the year. Everybody should keep their heads up and be the one ready to step up in the next game. If they keep a team mindset they will go far!!!

From where I sat here are my observations.

I thought Krahl was very good and plays very tough she is definitely one of the best players on this team. Dixon had a strong defensive player on her and I think got frustrated (2 early fouls) Those 2 have played against each other for a long time, so that helps. Carroll did not block Hargett out well and could not get their shots to fall.

Carroll had way too many unforced turnovers and does not usually play that out of control. I think it might have been the pressure of a lone Senior with a strong desire to win.

WV has a much deeper bench and a lot more experience, and last night I believe it showed. Carroll just is not deep enough to have 2 players in foul trouble in the first half and then an injury of a critical player. Most of the game we played 2 Fresh and 1 8th grader for the majority of the minutes and although both WV and Carroll have good young players, that type of game is very challenging for them.

WV really wanted this game and it showed, they played well and together as a team. Good luck Jeanie!

Congrats to Lady Bearcats! Awesome win!!!! Jeanie, I'm very curious too about Dixon and Sargent. Are they in the "dog house"? They are both strong players and could help contribute to the team.

I think Dixon just played like a freshmen, and the other girls were playing well enough to win. Sargent, not sure what that was about unless it was just how well the 8th grade guards played. I did see some bench behavior in the second half from some veteran Lady Bearcats who did not see much playing time that made me wonder. Anyone else see it??
