HOMELESS CAMEL Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Tubby and Co now 1-1 in the Big 10 and 11-3 overall. :thumb: Gophers are at Penn St on the 12th and then they have back to back home games against Indiana and Michigan St. :ylsuper:
bigblueinsanity Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 N Western is a bad team. But good win for Tubby. He has done a great job in Minny.
oldrambler Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Way to go Gophers! :ylsuper: OTS has his team playing very well sooner than I thought that it would take. I have no doubts that he will rebuild that program. Minnesota will take some "L's" vs. the likes of I.U., MSU and the like but I belive that Tubby and the Gophers will pull a couple of upsets along the way as well.
Blue Blazer Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 The little Blue Blazer,me and miss Blue Blazer got some tickets from Santa to the Ohio St. vs. Minnesota game on Jan. 26, 2008 in Columbus. I'm excited to see these 2 team with a combined record now of 25-6. Tubby and Co. played Michigan St. to a six point game on Saturday. I'm glad to be a Buckeye fan because to think if we lost Tubby in Columbus we would still be so upset. He is a great coach!!! I guess after the genius they hired to replace Tubby the people in Lexington are thrilled!! Tubby goes to the Dance again and UK goes to the Dump.
Covercorner Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Watched most of the game on the Big 10 Network. I like Coleman, thier power foward. Tubby brings in a freshman point guard off the bench, who seems to have some good raw talent. Actually the last two games, the freshman PG was in the game it seemed the last 10 minutes, in crunch time. He's a little turnover prone however. They showed a stat last night; Minnesota has had 10 players on the roster play in every game. Tubby is playing the entire team. If you remember the "5 for 5" substitutions at UK, then you would see something familiar watching these games. Yes Northwestern is a bad team that people say Minnesota should beat, but as LBBC would say, Minnesota did not beat those teams last year. In fact this win ended a four game home loosing streak to Northwestern.

Easy to say for someone who's team has been doing great work on the recruiting trail and played in the national championship last year. If Tubby were to come in to Ohio St. and let their program slide from where it is now like he did to UK you wouldn't be so upset to see him go.
Blue Blazer Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I'm happy with Coach Motta no question he is a terrific coach and I would be upset to see him go. However after Coach O'Brien left OSU the Buckeye Nation would have done backflips for Tubby Smith!

However after Coach O'Brien left OSU the Buckeye Nation would have done backflips for Tubby Smith! I am not that big of an Ohio State basketball fan, I agree with you on Motta - he is an excellent coach and I also have to agree on Tubby Smith. Most places would do "back flips", for a chance to get Tubby Smith, imo there is not a handful of coaches in the country that are even close to him as a basketball coach and fewer than that are even in the same league as far as a class person goes.
bugatti Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Good for Tubby. Whether or not Minnesota ever becomes a national title contender, they will be a solid force in the Big 10 for his duration.

Check back in 2-3 years BB. Typical Tubby lover happy with 6 point loss.

Also, your comment about U.K. would see something famiiliar in watching Tubby's Minnesota team, they also no doubt would see something more familiar (and expected) - it is called "Winning" games that you are supposed to win and having a chance in all games that you are in and winning a big share of those as well. Notice that "Winning" is a key term here:sssh:..... I am giving Billy G. some leadway however in that there is always a transition when a new coach comes in and impliments his system and way of doing things. I do think that he (BCG) is a very good coach, I was pleased when he came to U.K.. Only thing that I question is the lack of experience as a head coach, 5 years imo is not much and especially when it was at a Texas A&M and UTEP. Yes, he had some very good teams there and built both programs - not mch was expected out of those programs when he got there. BCG is now at a place where "everything" and more is not only wanted but is is expected and demanded. Big Difference imo. I hope that it works out and I belive that he will have the Cats back to where all want and expect them to be. :thumb:

SLINK Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Good for OTS!! However, Eagle '01 is right about the recruits that was left behind. The roster will look better next year and in two years, IMHO, it will look a lot like North Carolina's this year.

The roster will look better next year and in two years, IMHO, it will look a lot like North Carolina's this year. Miller and Liggins isn't going to make this team look that much better for next year. You're replacing two freshmen for two seniors. Not looking good for the near future. From what I've read they're in the running for only 2 or 3 of the top recruits for 09 so there's no way this team looks like NC in two years.
THESportsANIMAL Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Going to the dump with Tubby recruits. Check back in 2-3 years BB. Typical Tubby lover happy with 6 point loss. Losing to the 6th team in the nation isn't that bad saying that they held Nietzel to 4 points and 0 for 5 from three. Plus they also were in the game until the 2 minute mark, then couldn't get anything to fall and MSU got all there shots to fall. Tubby will get good recruits and when it happens don't worry all the Tubby fans will let you know.
