January 9, 200818 yr Author I guess he's trying to make a splash and get his name back in the mix. My guess is it should score him some points initially. Any thoughts from the BGP pundits?
January 9, 200818 yr Author Any promised tax cuts during an election I view with skepticism. I view everything that comes from a politicians mouth with skepticism...even the ones I'm for.
January 9, 200818 yr Nobody should be preaching tax cuts right now (think "read my lips...") Instead they should be talking about cutting spending.
January 9, 200818 yr Nobody should be preaching tax cuts right now (think "read my lips...") Instead they should be talking about cutting spending. I agree with you but you know what, we are issue voters and too many are not. They only or mostly care about money in their pockets. They don't see spending cuts as money in their pockets. Cutting their taxes, they see that as putting money in their pockets.

January 9, 200818 yr Nobody should be preaching tax cuts right now (think "read my lips...") Instead they should be talking about cutting spending. We can agree. Every dime the government spends is atax on someone. If they don't collect enough money to pay for it now, they will have to raise taxes on our children. Just once, I'd like to see one of these free lunch guys run on a platform of "Vote for me, I'll give you what you want and send your grandkids the bill."
January 9, 200818 yr Cut spending like the billions we spend in Iraq. And why do we need to spend billions of dollars on new aircraft carriers? We have bridges falling down and a power grid that needs fixing, I'd rather spend on that.
January 9, 200818 yr Cut spending like the billions we spend in Iraq. And why do we need to spend billions of dollars on new aircraft carriers? We have bridges falling down and a power grid that needs fixing, I'd rather spend on that. The bridges were in disrepair and the grid failing long before the Iraq War. What makes you think that stopping spending on the War will reallocate funds to those projects? They didn't maintain them before, they won't after.
January 9, 200818 yr Nobody should be preaching tax cuts right now (think "read my lips...") Instead they should be talking about cutting spending. I would go with both. Even after the Bush tax cuts reciepts of tax payments to the federal government have gone up steadily. So was it really a tax cut?
January 9, 200818 yr I support real tax cuts but I get tired of the hyperbole surrounding tax cuts and tax increases described as the "largest one in history." Nothing in Giuliani's background leads me to believe that he is a serious tax cutter. He is just making another grab for some conservative votes wherever he can find them.
January 10, 200818 yr To me this says that Guiliani has lost the limelight in the battle for the GOP nomination and is willing to say anything to get it back. This just reinforces to me that he is not the right person for the job. The other night the Comptroller General for the Federal Government was a guest on Glenn Beck's show on CNN and spoke about a coming "fiscal tsunami" unless present patterns of deficit spending are not reversed. The figures quoted were truly disturbing. We certainly don't need people with such irresponsible policy proposals calling the shots.

The figures quoted were truly disturbing. We certainly don't need people with such irresponsible policy proposals calling the shots. The question I have now is... Does this move boost his chances or hurt him? Does it get people's attention and make them think, "I want this guy because it's going to lower taxes and put money in my pocket."? Or, does it come off as a somewhat desperate attempt to get his name back in the picture? Will people take a more cynical look at this move?
