I will be shocked if he's not the JV coach at a 9th region school in the next 2 years. I predict that it will be next year if there are any kind of coaching changes after this year in the 9th.

 

JV Job? IMO this youngman is ready for a Head Coaching position and I would think a great many schools would jump at the chance to get him to take over their program.

Dayton has 2 assistant coaches... Coach Chuck Smith, like Coach Dilts, is an original "Dayton guy" and was has been in the system going back to his high school years. He was around in the 80's and early 90's with Steidel as a varsity assistant, left for quite a few years, and recently Coach Dilts brought him back as the JV coach. He does a lot of the X's and O's.

 

Coach Darrell Patton "knows everybody."He served as Dayton's middle school coach for a few years before Coach Dilts promoted him to "varsity assitant" when he got the job. I believe his most recent job prior to coming to Dayton was in "The Holy Trinity School" early years. He works really well with the players. The man seeminly has connection or ties to people from every school across nothern Kentucky.

 

Either of these guys can be seen on any given night scattered throughout NKY schools scouting and are always on the bench for the JV and Varsity games. They have both greatly contributed to the upswing Dayton's program has been/is making for the past few years. Either one of these guys who you might be talking about? Just curious, it's good to see all the good things being said about the program....

I agree that he is well qualified for a head coaching job, but most schools look at teachers first, and ones who aren't coaching 7th graders for that matter. I like Ryan a lot. I have a feeling that if the right person gets a head coaching job next year or the year after the first person he will ask to coach his JV team or a the very least be his varsity assistant will be Ryan.

Brian Casey does a great job at St. Henry, I just don't know if he's going to be interested in ever being a Head Coach.

 

I'm a huge fan of Brad Carr and Trent Steiner. These two are great friends and great young coaches.

 

I also really like what Garnett does at Conner.

 

NCC probably has the youngest head coach in the state with Brannen and he has some great help at NCC so he will be a good coach for a long time.

 

Most of these other position have been taken for a long time.

The hardest thing for a young coach is learning how to get the most out their players without cutting them up and leaving the negative in a players head. Build them up break them down and finish with the positive. Watch a big man respond better to being challenged to crash the boards and come out with the ball. A good shooter will come to life if encouraged to keep shooting as opposed to being told to back off. Ball handlers will make mistakes but when coach puts more pressure on him as opposed to getting on the big man for not setting the pick to get the wing man open the ball handler in most cases tries to do more and makes more mistakes! Defenders need to be challanged to defend. Most athletes in general respond well to being challenged!

Tim Sullivan is a class act and will get another shot at the varsity level.

Who knows when Henley will leave Holmes, but if or when he does and, if Tim is still on the staff, Sullivan will get the job.

Is he the AAU Coach that used to coach at Boone Co.? If he is, he belongs with Listerman.

Ryan Schrand will be a head coach somewhere in the future. Just a guess, but I predict he'll be back at Covington Catholic sooner rather than later.

 

And yes, you probably saw him on the sideline at St. Joe's. And it's not surprising that his son, Leighton, is the best shooter in his class. I think the kid was actually born with a basketball in his hand.

Just a guess but I would say Tim will have several good offers on the table before Henley is ready to leave possibly the Cooper job.

Cooper will hire a Boone County teacher. They have the first right to the teaching jobs and first right to the extra duty jobs. Then outside hires are made, then if no one wants the coaching job or is not qualified for it, principals and ADs discretion, then it goes to open applicants.

I understand the process and there will be plenty of consideration given to Boone Co. coaches but in the end if they are serious about their sports programs they will choose the best person for the job and I believe he will be one of the finalists.

I understand your passion for this coach but if you look at the qualified coaches in Boone County, Garnett especially, they would be insane to go outside the county. It is different coaching in Boone County Schools than at Holmes High School. And besides, he is a Holmes guy through and through. He will replace Henley, sooner rather than later, and why leave to coach a school that will struggle for 2-3 years?
