13th Region All A Discussion

Featured Replies

That would be a good matchup but I don't know how physical LC could get with C'land IMO not very, this would be a home game for LC, but they have a tough first round game with B'ville, LC has more overall talent but alot of teams have a hard time coming out of B'ville with a win. A few years ago before he got sick Coach Bingham had Lynn Camp in the finals of the All-A region vs Jackson Co. they led most of the game I think only to lose at the end. Really didn't understand why a school the size of Jackon Co. is every in the All-A. LC was a pretty good team that year as well as this one.

I believe Corbin played in the All 'A' a couple of times.

Yes they did. I'm guessing four times, but I don't think they ever won though.

No, I believe Harlan beat them once and maybe Red Bird? I'm not sure.

Cumberland is definitely the best team. But, the best team does not always win. Pineville, Middlesboro or Lynn Camp could sneak in and steal this tournament.

How about Charles Thomas and Todd Cox when they both transferred to Harlan? Do you remember those guys? Mr Basketball (who was from Cumberland) and a 6'8" center who started for a National Championship Georgetown College team. How about Woody Asher to Clay County, Shannon Hoskins to Clay County, Whitaker and Warren from Bell County to Hazard this year!! Billy Hicks actually won his first state championship with his best player and sweet 16 mvp transferring in from Corbin (Rick Jones) and I know there are several more that I have not mentioned that transferred to Clay County and other schools over the last 40 years. Then you have a kid like O.J. Mayo who goes wherever he wants and actually played for 3 different High Schools and never had to sit out an entire year like Wilson of Cumberland did last year.

Good point. How quickly do people forget.

Corbin won the All A Region back in 2003 with that bunch that had so much hype and state title talk yet fell short of even making region. It was the bunch with Isaiah Mills, Johnny B. Hammons, and that bunch. They lost to Bethlehem I believe in the first round up in Richmond. The year before that was when they fell short against Harlan over at Red Bird. They were knocked out by Harlan in 98 in the All A region.

These all moved I know that, but other than Hoskins I guess most of the others were fairly young players when they transferred then became stars. Like I stated IMO nothing wrong with it and the two, IMO again, have more potential ability than anyone on this list other than OJ, why did Wilson have to sit out anyway?

Didn't Central have those two foreign exchange kids a few years back that were pretty OK?

I remember these two, the 6'4 guard was a real player the other one was just a tall dude, not much on the court.

I forgot about that one. Cumberland won the overall region that year but not the All "A."

Yeah, I should have remembered that. my brother-in-law started for the Redhounds that year.

Was that the year the region was at Whitley Co.? If so, that was the loudest gym for those games I have ever been in. One thing that stands out to me was how Eddie Creech willed C'land to win and how unreal long his arms were for a player his size.

Pineville nor Middlesboro will beat Cumberland on any court. Pineville needed overtime and a crazy amount of free throws to beat Lynn Camp tonight and Middlesboro lost to overrated Bell County tonight.

Pineville, if they do not beat Cumberland, will give Cumberland a game.

It was at Whitley and Creech was definitely the difference.
