December 30, 200718 yr Soa Palalei vs. Eddie Sanchez Boring. Rich Clementi vs. Melvin Guillard I guess they couldn't find two classier guys to fight tonight. Lyoto Machida vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou This fight carried a lot of anticipation. I like Sokoudjou but he showed that he didn't have much ground skill. Machida did exactly what he needed to do; quell Sokoudjou's vaunted standup skill. I look for Machida to be a force and I look forward to his next fight. Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva This fight, in my opinion, was awesome. I think it's exactly what a lot of people were looking for. Silva is incredibly tough, he took a beating and continually fired right back, all the way until the final bell. Liddell landed a ton of shots on him. They really traded a few heavy blows too. I think Silva knocked Liddell down twice (he may have slipped on the first one) and I believe Liddell took Silva down three times. Liddell even used a spinning-backfist. It was really an awesome fight. I was surprised that Silva didn't use the clench or more knees/kicks, especially when it was clear Liddell was getting the better of the punching exchanges. I think Liddell learned from the Jardine fight and changed some things. His takedowns weren't to get the Silva on the ground and work from there, but to keep him honest and score points. After the takedowns they were almost immediately back on their feet. Perhaps Liddell game planned for a decision and worked to score points rather than swing for the fences against another slugger. Although Liddell did swing for the fences quite a bit. He wiffed a few punches that looked like they would have taken Silva's head off. I hope these guys get to go at it again, perhaps for five rounds, and I look forward to their next fights. Matt Hughes vs. Georges St. Pierre Pretty much what I expected, I thought St. Pierre was the better fighter before and it certainly showed. I suppose it was relatively boring compared to the fight before it, but watching St. Pierre work is like watching an artist. His right leg sweep takedown of Hughes was great and the ground work utilized to get the arm bar was simply impressive, especially considering Hughes' ground prowess. I enjoyed watching it and can't wait for St. Pierre to dismantle Serra. :thumb::thumb:
December 30, 200718 yr I just watched the Liddel/Sylva fight again, and couldn't help but notice that Sylva had plenty of opportunities to go in for the kill as he did in Pride, but he did not. I don't guess I can blame him though. I hope these two fight again somewhere down the road. Awesome fight.
December 31, 200718 yr How does St. Pierre manage to dominate a guy likeHughes and lose to a guy like Serra...I hope GSP reign lasts longer than 1 fight this time around, he is a treat! I would love to see him and Ace Franklyn work out the weights and go at it for five rounds.

Machida is a technician and he really impressed me tonight. I agree 100% with everything you said about the Liddell/Silva and the Hughes/Rush fight.
December 31, 200718 yr Anybody watching M-1 Global's Yarennoka right now on HDnet? The Fedor fight is coming on now.
December 31, 200718 yr Anybody watching M-1 Global's Yarennoka right now on HDnet? The Fedor fight is coming on now. Fedor wins in just under two minutes. Hong Man Choi was doing well until he got caught in the arm bar. Fedor had him in a good arm bar before but Choi was able to get out. Choi is a freaking monster tho, he's so big he made Fedor look like a little kid. He had a 14 inch height advantage over him and 165lb weight advantage.

I saw their pre-fight pictures and Choi dwarfed Fedor. I wanted to watch it just to see the giant get ruined.
January 2, 200818 yr Another good night of fights. Happy to see Chucky looking like his old self. That was a great fight. Not really surprised that GSP dominated Hughes. He's a beast. I won't be surprised if that's the end of the road for Hughes. I loved seeing Clemente put Guillard in his place. I've never liked that guy. On a side note....got my tix for UFC 82 in Columbus. Can't wait!
January 2, 200818 yr Chuck and Wandy lived up to the hype...great fight. Two all-time greats going toe-to-toe for three rounds...to be honest, I wasn't sure either guy could take the punishment they did in that fight. My hats off...both of them proved their toughness. And, Liddell definitely won the fight. He clearly won the first and last rounds...the second was close. I would have probably given Silva round 2, but I could see it either way. I'd love to see them fight again. I'm looking forward to seeing the Axe Murderer in the octagon again. He didn't look like he was surprised by the cage or the atmosphere (which has been a problem with some pride guys), so I think he'll still be a major factor in the LHW Division.
