December 19, 200718 yr One of the arguments I hear on the abortion issue is that we cannot tell a female what they can do with their body. And yet, everyone is horrified that baseball players have injected their body with steroids and want to put a stop to it. We have told the males in this country that they cannot inject steroids into their body. There is a calling for a banishment and punishment for them injecting steriods in their body while our country says it is okay to stop the life of an unborn child. Why the double standard?

Because the Supreme Court found laws against abortion to be unconstitutional, and laws against illicit drugs have not been found unconstitutional. The only way you could outlaw abortion is to have an amendment.

They are horrified about the integrity of the game in which men would inject their bodies with steroids, while NOT being horrified about women who choose to stop the life of their unborn child so that they are not inconvenienced with having a child. I don't get how we as a country are horrified with one but turn an indifferent eye to the other.

Its apples and oranges in terms of the question lbbc asked about why people care about whether somebody a)has an abortion or b)takes steroids and plays baseball. I personally object to abortion because of the moral question about the rights of the unborn. But as lbbc stated there are those who feel like we have no right to tell that woman what she can do with her body. I can understand their position and why they feel like they don't have the right to object. That is a personal decision made by that woman that doesn't affect anyone else (assuming they don't believe the unborn child is a person until birth). On the steroid question, it all has to do with the conjunction underlined and bolded above. I'm sure those same people couldn't give a flying fig if Barry Bonds took steroids if he was an engineer from Emmett, Idaho. It isn't a moral dilemna at all and it all comes back to personal freedoms that affect noone else. But if Barry Bonds is playing outfield for the Giants and taking steroids (and setting home run hitting records), then the steroids taint the game in a way that destroy the ideals of fair competition. And for those who love the game (or love to bet on it ), that is a matter for concern.

I attempted to give my best shot at the questions asked. Beyond that, I can't say why people feel the way they do and I certainly can't defend them if we are going to split hairs. These two issues are totally different wars. I don't think you can really compare the two in great detail because, as I said to start with, they are apples and oranges IMO.
December 19, 200718 yr Baseball has no one to blame for the steroid controversy but itself. Do you really think that the upper echelon of the game didn't know there was a steroid problem? As for abortion, I'm not a supporter of it. However, there are circumstances that do come into play. A woman is raped and ends up pregnant. Does that justify aborting the pregnancy?
December 19, 200718 yr I am Pro Choice.. I think a woman should have the right to choose. If you want my reason why I'll tell you.. My Aunt Conceived in 1992. She was a Christian who didn't believe in abortion. The doctors told her she was going to have problems during delivery but she wanted to have the baby. Well She Passed away during child birth but the baby lived. He was born with brain damage and Cerebral Palsy ( sorry for the spelling) he died on Thanksgiving day 1997 at age 4. He never had a life all he could do was lay there he had a feeding tube and constant medical attention.. So in my Aunts mind she made the right choice, but what if some woman wanted to save her life by having the abortion shouldn't she be allowed??? If it's Illegal then should she be sent to jail.... I am not for a woman going out with 10 Guys in 1 night. Getting Pregnant, Doesn't care about the baby having an abortion, if she does it just to kill the baby to keep on living her lifestyle she needed tied up and beat with a whip... That is why I'm pro choice..... You cannot Outlaw a woman trying to save her life.
December 19, 200718 yr Apples and Oranges. People getting upset about athletes using steroids usually isn't about their choice to do that to their bodies but rather about cheating at a game. People's opinions on abortion are centered around their beliefs on when life begins.
