I like both of these guys. I voted for Piper, because even though Stone Cold would be tougher, Piper would distract Stone Cold and then Ace Bob Horton would hit him in the back of the head with a cow bell. Then Piper would stuff his head in a toilet and flush it.

Stone Cold is second biggest draw in the histry of the sport next to Hulk Hogan. Had his knees got given out on him he would still figure prominently in the World Title scene. Piper? Never had WWF World Title, multiple chances againt Hulk, but was the Buffalo Bills of the mid-80's. One of the best mic guys in wrestling history, but this is a match and not a dueling promo segment. Stone Cold would come the winner in this match and your right Piper did have alot of chances against Hogan and never won it all, alot of times Piper would get DQ.

Had Stone Cold as the #4 seed with Roddy having a #13 seed. Couldn't put him ahead of some of the greats that held titles despite what I have said in defense of him not having titles.

Wow...this is the best matchup. You gotta love Piper, but Stone Cold was the #1 reason that wrestling made it back to the level it did. I gotta go with Austin...he spearheaded the "Attitude" era, which is probably the biggest in wrestling history.

It's mostly because of his knees. Owen Hart broke his neck when he hit with a piledriver at SummerSlam '97. Austin never left TV though and was able to return to limited action at the Survivor Series later that year.

 

While his neck has always been a health issue, his knees are in terrible shape. If you've followed Austin's career long enough you remember by the end of the "Invasion" angle Austin was wearing two big bulky braces on his knees and had a hard time even getting up from the mat. His last match with against the Rock at Wrestlemania 19.

 

Without Roddy as the perfect villain in WM I, there might not be any Hulkamania.

 

Hulkamania was born out of Hulk's feud with the Iron Sheik and Hulk's friendship with Bob Backlund, not his feud with Piper. Piper was Hogan's third feud in late '84 when he joined alliances with Hogan's then enemy "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff.

 

Let's look at Piper here- he had multiple chances to win the World Title in WCW and in the WWF. For whatever reasons the bookers never thought he could carry the gold. He's actually never held the World Title in any of the 5 feds to have the big world titles and he's been in all of them (AWA, NWA, WCCW, WCW, and the WWF/E). There has got to be areason for that other than "he was a bad guy."

 

It could be that territorial issues surrounding wrestling in the late 70's and early 80's prevented him from having a run, but Piper has proved he can work both ways (heel and face) and be successful. I just think in the end, Piper could always tell a compelling story on the mic, but he never was that great a performer in the ring. If you think back his feud with Ric Flair in the WWF in the early 90's the best part about it were the promos! Not even Flair could carry Piper to a 4 star match. How many of you remember a Piper match? When someone says Piper's name you immediately think of him hitting Snuka with a coconut, Pipers Pit, and his mic work.

 

Let's face facts- if it were not for Stone Cold Steve Austin it would not have been the WWF buying WCW in 2001, it would have been WCW buying the WWF. Plain and simple. At his height from '98-2001 Austin was arguably more over than other wrestler in the history of the sport. Had injuries not shortened his run he might have surpassed Hogan as the biggest draw of all time. He simply doesn't lose to Piper.

I forgot about his back. Also, truth be told, I don't think he could pass the Wellness Policy tests to get back in the ring anyway. I have some friends in the business who have told me he's doing better, but not completely clean.
