I could write a novel about how great Coach Kelsch is, but I'll keep it simple.

 

Robin has always been passionate about the town of Augusta in its entirety. Whether it is the basketball team or the school itself, he has always cared a ton for each and every person.

 

I played for 4 years with Coach Kelsch and was able to help him get to his first Regional tournament

I will always say this, Robin Kelsch is the most underated coach in the 10th Region. The guy is solid, his loyalty to Augusta, the school, the kids and the community is awesome. Robin with his knowledge of the game could go to a bigger program and lead them to the big dance. No discredit in that statement to Augusta. Augusta and the community should be very fortunate to have a guy like Robin Kelsch to lead their kids on the basketball floor and off the court. The guy brings great passion and respect to the game, characteristics that kids need once they walk off the court into life after the game of basketball. He is a solid coach, but more importantly a solid leader.

I played for Coach Kelsch during his first three seasons (proud member of his first team with a winning record 00-01) as head coach and one when he was assistant. Even played for Rob when he began as an eighth grade coach.

I owe so much to the man that it's hard to put into words.

He not only taught me alot about the game of basketball but also about life. His loyalty not only to his school and program but as a friend is unmatched.

Growing up in A-Town, I always wanted to be a Panther and to give my all for the school and the community. Then when I got there through hard times it should have been tough but you couldn't give less than your best when playing for a man with such passion and pride.

I leave this thread with a phrase used by Robin which he learned from a person that will remain anonymous to this site: "Rock and Roll...If you don't like it...LEAVE!"

Robin Kelsh is an Augusta kind of guy!

 

His aspirations aren't onward and upward, but to serve his guys at Augusta with 100% dedication and commitment - and they and the community obviously greatly love and respect him for it.

 

He bleeds orange and knows what he has, and he knows what he is up against and accepts that challenge and does the best he can under the circumstances.

 

I truly believe that it is more fun to win at a place like Augusta. I think that the players, fans, and community recognize and appreciate those accomplishments more than at a place where you are expected to win and each game is approached like a land-mine, where you simply clear one hurdle and move on to the next one.

 

Kelsh knows that he will never win a regional tournament at Augusta, so he has to hang his hat on the accomplishments that they can achieve. Winning the 10th Region Freshmen tournament a few years back had to be huge. Winning a 10th Region "A" and going to Richmond would close the town down and they would talk about it for years. On a daily, weekly, or monthly basis beating rivals such as Bracken County and competing with other small schools in the same boat needs to be their focus. All else is icing on the cake!

 

Robin Kelsh may someday become a member of the 10th Region Hall of Fame. It won't be because of his wins and losses, but because of his love and dedication to a town and a team that he truly cares about, to kids who he wants to make a better life for, for the pride that he has instilled in his community, and for all of the mountains that he tries to climb on a daily basis.

I don't know the man personally, but sounds like the kind of coach you would want your kids to play for.

It's very nice to be able to get on this forum and read some great things about a great school and a great person.

 

On many different nights I have watched Coach Kelsch and his team play and one thing if always for certain... that Augusta Panthers respect Coach Kelsch and give 110% for him.

 

I couldnt agree more with what Mustang said. Winning at Augusta is more fun then at schools where wins are expected. Coach Kelsch dedicates his time and energy to Augusta Schools and Augusta Basketball.

 

Ever since I was a young child all I ever heard around the house was that his dream was to one day teach at Augusta High School and coach the Augusta Panthers. He will tell you to this day he is just living out his life long dream.

 

He is a great teacher, great coach, great person, but an even better brother!

I would have to get a Thesaurus out to find more words to say the same thing as everyone else has. Passion and loyalty are two things that are rarely used together. Most people look for the green grass on the other side. Robin puts the kids from his hometown above everything. That loyalty combined with his passion and flat-out coaching talent makes Augusta a fierce competitor every year. Truly one of, if not the best, coach in the 10th region.

I know him, and yes he is the kind of coach that you want for your kids. I will be the first to admit that at first I did not know what to think of Robin. Over the past few years I have learned more and more what he means to A- Town. People may not agree with every decision Robin makes but there is a reason you can be sure of it. I am honored to have him coaching my sons.
