Paintsville job open

Featured Replies

Let's just say there is a reason he did not get the job back in 2005 and that reason still has a major say in what goes on in Paintsville.

Is it because of the rift between BMR & himself? Also, have you heard if he is still being considered for the LC job?

This will be the fourth coach at Paintsville in the last 5 years, it will be almost impossible to build a up a football program when you keep changing coaches like this.

I talked with Chuke the other day and he told me he was not interested in the LC job....

Changing coaches like changing underwear isnt going to change the facts. Paintsville's problem is the school across the creek. Johnson Central's recent success on the gridiron has lead to JC keeping its athletes in house instead of making the venture across the creek. Paintsville will continue to be competitive in its district, but I cant see this school making the noise deep in the playoffs that it once did if JC's program continues to rise as it has the past 4 years. Paintsville has a football tradition much larger than Johnson Central, but they are going to have to let a coach build a program instead of hoping for a quick fix.

That is the most honest thing anyone could say about the Paintsville football program at this time. The next coach at Paintsville will have to focus on who to schedule and most importantly district games. Paintsville will continue to struggle with it's program untill they develop some of their own players. Their COUNTY WELL has run dry! The Tigers have recieved few if ANY gifts from the County in the last few years and I believe that will continue.

Don't get me wrong, I think the program can be productive in the years to come but it is going to take some major work!

Where is Coach Chuke at now. I remember when LC had some really good teams in the late 1990's

I am sure that BMR just wants to make sure that the Tigers end up with a football coach who will continue the tradition that Walter Brugh, David Lemaster, and he built at Paintsville. How does Coach Allen's career record compare to Bill Mike's record as football coach? What was Lemaster's career record there?

Walter Brugh coached at Paintsville from 1956-1994 with a 280-111-5 record. David Lemaster coached from 1995-2004 with a 71-50 record. BMR coached during the 05 season and had a 10-3 record and Allen coached the 06-07 seasons with a 11-12 record. Keep in mind that when BMR took over as coach in 2004, he inherited a huge senior class with most of the starters from the 03 team returning, on the other hand Allen inherited a team that returned with only 2 or 3 seniors and few starters from BMR team.

Thanks for the info. I did not recall Coach Runyon having such a good record in his only season at the helm. If I recall correctly, Coach Lemaster's record in his initial season was 1-9, and Paintsville stuck with him long enough to turn things around.

Considering the turnaround that has taken place across the creek and its impact on Paintsville's available talent pool, Coach Allen's two year record is not bad.

If Paintsville does not hire somebody for the long haul, the wheels are going to come completely off the Tigers' football program.

Here's a good site on the history of the Paintsville football program, this is where I found the coaches records.

While there is no denying that Paintsville has benefited from transfers over the years from Central, the majority of our kids have been home grown. Our main problem right now is getting our athletes already at Paintsville to take an interest in football. Hopefully, our new coach can get the numbers up and get us going back in the right direction. For example, 2 years ago in the Apple Bowl we only dressed 18 players. Thats not going to get it done on any level. I believe that Paintsville has enough talent roaming our hallways to be competitive with anyone in class A, or at least be able to compete with Pikeville for the region every year.
