December 9, 200718 yr Unless it's Johan Santanna or Josh Beckett, I hardly see anyone as being so "proven" as a guy I have never even heard of. And I do watch baseball. If you haven't heard of Erik Bedard, then with all due respect, you don't watch baseball.
December 9, 200718 yr Author Unless it's Johan Santanna or Josh Beckett, I hardly see anyone as being so "proven" as a guy I have never even heard of. And I do watch baseball. Go check out Bedard's numbers and get back to me. His team is bad. He is VERY good...
December 9, 200718 yr So you sit and hope he becomes a #1 and walk away from a proven #1 that has shown he can get guys out in the AL East? No thanks. I want to win, and now... :thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb:
December 9, 200718 yr So you sit and hope he becomes a #1 and walk away from a proven #1 that has shown he can get guys out in the AL East? No thanks. I want to win, and now... I totally agree. I've been waiting til next year for way to long. This would be a huge step for Cincy.
December 9, 200718 yr OK, lets look at Bedard and Bailey last season. Bedard - 13-5 - 3.16 ERA - 221 K's - 57 walks Bailey - 4-2 - 5.76 ERA - 28 K's - 28 walks I know Bailey came up late and didn't play a lot but still. I like Bailey but I agree. I have been saying next year for way to long, I'm ready to win more than 70-75 games.

Bedard also played on one of the worst offensive teams in the AL.....With the Reds offense he would have had at least a couple more wins...
December 9, 200718 yr Bedard also played on one of the worst offensive teams in the AL.....With the Reds offense he would have had at least a couple more wins... Exactly. Bedard and Harang would be a good 1-2 combo. Both could win us 15 or more games and strike out over 210.
December 9, 200718 yr Exactly. Bedard and Harang would be a good 1-2 combo. Both could win us 15 or more games and strike out over 210. The only teams that would have a comparable 1-2 punch would be Boston if they get Santana, and Cleveland with Sabathia and Carmona.
December 9, 200718 yr Wow! I'm so glad you aren't in charge of the Reds....How long have you been waiting til next year? I don't understand your logic one bit. Hamilton has potential to be a very good player, Bailey has potential to be a very good player, while Bedard is already proven to be a legit #1 starter. You'd rather have potential over proven talent? Yes, the Reds have stockpiled young talent and can go on a long run, or trade them all away and be good for a year or two.
December 9, 200718 yr Yes, the Reds have stockpiled young talent and can go on a long run, or trade them all away and be good for a year or two. How do you know the young talent will pan out? I mean, Brandon Classuen, Brandon Larson, Rob Bell, etc. were all young "talent". How'd they turn out? If you're satisfied with the "wait til next year" approach, you're never going to see a winner.
December 10, 200718 yr Yes, the Reds have stockpiled young talent and can go on a long run, or trade them all away and be good for a year or two. That is the delima that everyone is thinking of.
December 10, 200718 yr Unless it's Johan Santanna or Josh Beckett, I hardly see anyone as being so "proven" as a guy I have never even heard of. And I do watch baseball. Sorry to jump on this one as well, but it cracked me up. Bedard was outstanding on a bad team in loaded division. In the NL his numbers would seem to project out to an outstanding CY Young candidate. If we can get a true #1 like Bedard you have to jump on it. That being said, I'll believe it when I see it.
December 10, 200718 yr No more "wait till next year". Win now and deal with the future when it gets here... To piggyback on this, the article makes the point that Bedard is 28. How old is Harang? You could tie these two up through their mid-30's and have a good 1-2 punch for the next 6-8 years.
