Boone by 10. Coach Stowers will have his players so scared to make a mistake that they will come out very tight and tentative. Then he will over react and it will snowball from there until the fourth qtr., when SK will make a run to make it more respectful.

The run was actually more in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. The SK team did look scared to death. They jacked up airballs, missed open shots and threw the ball all over the court. Give Boone credit for nice agressive defense but...

SK seemed to get things together and ultimately led by like 5 with 2:30 to go. Then SK got scared to death again and handed the game over.

It is easy to play relaxed when you are playing teams you should beat easily but a challenge when you are playing better competition and that's when this team struggles.

The regional tournament thing was mentioned earlier in this thread but how about this move last night. The coach yanked a girl out of the game and then wouldn't let her sit in the open seat towards the top of the bench. He escorted her to the end of the bench and made her sit there. I felt really bad for the kid.

As for the game, I believe SK will be hard to beat. They lost their best big girl to graduation and two starters to knee problems, but they are still deep. They have a pretty good starting 5.

I haven't seen bc play this yr. so I cannot give them a fair shake but I can say their not going to lay down and quit. Its pretty obvious Bradley and Behrens make it happen for Boone. This could be a good game , or it could get ugly.

SK might be deep but you would never know it looking at the game last night. If not for foul problems Stowers would have only went 6 deep all game. Boone's speed gave SK fits all night only giving them uncontested shots when there was a lapse or breakdown. Tolliver got her points but she is good enough to score on most any team. Boone did a great job holding the rest of the team down. JC, Katie, and Heather Sandlin did a great job balancing out the scoring so SK could not focus on one player. The biggest mismatch was SK had no answer for Beherns. When she got the ball in the post all they could do was let her score or foul her. If Katie hits her foul shots early Boone might have run away with it. Watching the game I think Stowers should run more plays for That Ferris girl she was by far the most athletic of the SK girls that way teams could not focus on just Tolliver.

Not surprised!!!

Wow he gets made at a player and feels the need to not just yell at them but embarrass them. Classic bully coach!!!

I agree that there is a differnce between coaching and attacking- coach stowers is a very intense coach, most girls teams could not even function with him. I read something the other day about being positive when things are not going so well and more critical when they are going well as players are more open to listening. When you have a veteran player or talented player, you expect them not to make mistakes, and unfortunately, everyone does. When that happens, all the frustrations of everything else that have gone wrong can come out and it will generally get taken out one of those players because the coach expects them to be able to handle it.

I wasn't at the game last night but I was at the regional semi last year where the melt down occurred. It is easy to say that you should be able to handle it , not let it get to you, and move on, but ulitmately, the biggest dffference between coaching boys and girls, is that girls take things more personally(they are more sensitive) and don't handle things as well when they are not going their way. Sounds immature, I know, but they don't always handle failure like they should. We are still talking about hormonal teen-age girls who can over-react to just about anything- not that it is not justified. There is a way to get your point across without embarassing or humiliatiing someone.

My advice is for the players to work on their own mental toughness- you cannot control your coach but you can control how you are going to react to it. By withdrawing, you have let someone else control your fate. You won't always be playing for that coach but you can learm how to not let it affect you in a negative way.

I agree with alot of what you are saying but have you ever seen Farris and Conley shoot as bad as they did? Farris was something like 0-16! Stowers should have posted Tolliver up as long as Sandlin was trying to guard her and its easily game over. Fookes would have obviously changed her plan, but he didn't make boone play to his strengths. I think Coach Fookes won the game of coaching last night. Bradley is a great player and Stowers should have had Tolliver guarding her. Your not going to stop Jacy all night but Conley was way overmatched by Bradley. Also as many times as Jacy stole the ball from Conley why didn't he have Tolliver bringing the ball up the whole night?

I agree SK didn't look deep too me either. Boone played a great game. They had a game plan and stuck to it. Bradley and Behrens did what superstars do , they played aggresive, made shots, had assists, and hit the big free throws down the stretch.

The stats i heard was Conley with 10 turnovers and Tolliver with 5 that is a whole bunch.

SK definitely did not play the way they are capable of playing. They rushed shots, were out hustled on 6 or 7 fastbreaks, and did not take it to Behrens with 4 fouls. All resulting in a close game loss that in my opinion should have been a 20 point win. All in all it was ugly. Hopefully both teams will grow from this game cause it won't be any easier when regionals and the state come along. Good luck to both

Conley has proven to be the best ball handler and defender on the team. I would have probably had Tolliver bring the ball up as well but Fookes would have moved Bradley to her and the same problems would have came about, as Bradley stole the ball from Tolliver a few times as well. The positive for SK is that their guards as a whole played about as bad as they good and they still barely lost to a pretty good Boone team. The negative is that the buckled in a big game pressure situation. Hopefully by the end of the year they will be able to rise to the occasion. Boone can look at this as a huge win that can really kick-start their season.

JD's Dad...this is a classic example of fans seeing two different games. IMO...if BC doesn't miss foul shots and wide open bunny's early in the game...they could have run away with it. I personally felt Boone handed the game to SK last year and could have made a ton excuses why it happened (including some of yours), but they deserved the loss because SK was more composed and out-played us down the stretch. This year...I felt that BC showed more composure down the stretch and kept the ball in the hands of their two experienced players. I'm personally much more proud of how our younger role players responded.

Boone has a combined 10 soph's/fresh on this roster so for the first time in years there are "zero" expectations...so they are just playing. This win will hopefully help our kid's gain a little confidence...I'm also convinced the loss exposed some things that coach Stowers will correct. So both teams gained something early in the season.

Many of us were surprised with the outcome...but you can't steal our thunder because these kids played hard.

Not trying to steal thunder, SK was outplayed most of the game and are lucky it was that close. I was basing my opinion on the 4 prior games. They did noy play any where near their potential in the Boone game. But then there are the shoulda coulda wouldas. In the end good W for Boone bad L for SK

I'm not putting Conley down whatsoever she is a very good player, but I wholeheartedly disagree with you. I don't think she is the best ball handler or defender and I think Coach Stowers should have made a change and was just outcoached. It would surprise me if Fookes would have moved Bradley over to guard Tolliver. BC doesn't have a guard Tolliver couldn't have posted up.

Im not taking anything away from BC , they played to win and they did a great job ! Jacy and Katie did their thing and the younger girls hit big shots as well. I am sure they both learned somethings about themselves and each other. BC deserved to win the game and thats why we play the game. Looking at it on paper doesn't mean much in girls basketball.
