Boone 58 Ryle 47

I think Mullins will get the job done at Ryle. I've had some good experiences with him, seems to know what he is doing.

If Gabbard is the SOPH, he's got a great future. However, to answer your question about today: no. Again, great future.

I agee with you there he is not even the best poitn guard in the district.

Ryle will not be much better than they are now unless the coach admitts his error in appointing Ahern team captain and starting point guard for life.Ahern is too small and struggles to bring the ball down the floor which slows the whole team down.He won't shoot even when they needed 3 points at the end of the Oldham game.Even if he penetrates,he is too small to dish the ball, thus Maley is not envolved .

The other main problem is Russell. His poor performances are the result of not practicing all summer.I hear he skipps practice after losses and yet still starts. How does a player get as many rebounds-off.-and not get a putback

as evidenced by 1 point of production. He absolutely has hands of stone.

IMO-Play Mcliech and Nichols at those two positions, write the year off, and Ryle will be better off next year.

I haven't seen Ryle play this year but the schedule has been relatively tough to this point. If Ahern is not the answer at the PG position is McLeish ready? I thought McLeish was more of a 2G?

I did see Ryle play some over the summer and seemed like they were playing an uptempo style so I am a little surprised that they haven't put more points on the board. I realize everyone is up tempo during the summer but Ryle looked really good at that pace.

Statistically Nichols earned a starting spot with his play the past 2 games. Certainly when you consider he plays close to a full JV game and has only been out of football for a short time. I am sure Coach Mullins is considering his options. I say put those on the floor who are producing. Nichols, Coleman, and McLeish work extremlly well together. They have played basketball together for a number of years.

There is certainly plenty of talent that comes through Ryle, from Gray. Each year Gray is one of the better middle school teams in the area. Ryle will always be a football school, however. Which seems to hurt the basketball program.

Maley is playing like he did last year. Just cant deal with small failures and takes himself out of the game . He hurts the team at this point when he stays in the game.

Helmer was hot and could have helped win the game if he gets more minutes. Sat out alot in the 3rd qtr.

Ahern struggles because of his size.

Start Porter,Coleman,Helmer, Mcliesh, and Russell or Nichols. Maley stats if he earns it in the game .

These guys can run and get it done.

Lamping is also key off the bench. He makes things happen.

I think your wrong about the coaches decision on Ahern. He probably is one of the most consistently hard workers on the team and is unselfish to a fault. I would agree that he needs to look for his shot more but he wants to involve his teammates, which is a sign of a good leader and point guard. I would rather have that situation than the other situation where a point guard is all about himself and how his production is more important than the team concept. Something that Ryle had with the point guards who were playing previous to Ahern.

I would agree that Russell has underperformed and it may be due to lack of committment to get better. If he doesn't turn it around soon, he may find himself sitting the bench more often. Obviously he started all of last year and was a key member of the freshman championship team, but he does not seem to be getting any stronger or better-- probably because he did not work hard in the offseason.

It would be unfortunate to start McLeish and Nichols and write the year off. If they earn those positions, which they might, then so be it. But on the high school level, how can you just write kids off for the sake of a future??? If McLeish and Nichols do not give them the best chance to win NOW, then you shouldn't sacrifice an upperclassman's year just to hopefully gain victories in the future.

Maley did not get too many scoring opportunities against Boone. He does tend to get frustrated, but has definitely improved from last season in this regards.

Helmer was hot, but then he got tired and got out of control and turned the ball over, took a bad contested shot and made a reversal pass by leaving the ground and trying to throw a no-look cross court pass that was stolen. Until he can prove his production will stay consistent over longer stretches, you have to relieve him to keep from losing ground.

I love Lamping's energy on defense. He definitely was making McFarland work for his opportunities. He is liability on offense right now. Maybe when he gets more basketball under him that will get better.

Maley is definatley better than last year. Still has a ways to go. He needs to create more opportunities for himself and his teamates by being more of a threat offensively. He has a tendancy to give the ball up to quikly.

Helmer does get winded ,but sits out too long in my opinion.

Ahern is a very good leader, however his size and ability to see the open floor is a cause for concern. He works extremely hard.
