I hope the Reds or Redsox gets him.

I think the RedSox end up with him.

In my world he will pitch for the Indians but in the real world I hope anywhere but in Yankee land. Hopefully Boston.

The latest word I'm hearing is that the Yankees offer now will include Phil Hughes instead of Ian Kennedy. If that is the case I'd say they are the front-runners. Supposedly the Red Sox are still in the hunt but the Twins want the Red Sox to include either Jacoby Ellsbury or Clay Buchholz to the previous offer of Jon Lester, Coco Crisp and a pair of minor leaguers. Honestly, if they Yankees give up Phil Hughes and Melky Cabrera in this deal, have to pay Santana $150 Million and Pettitte retires as expected I don't think the Yankees will be any better next season. I'd much rather the Red Sox go ahead and trade Lester, Crisp, and the minor leaguers to the A's for Dan Haren who's already signed for the next 3 seasons. I like Beckett, Haren, Dice K, Schilling and Buchholz better than Santana, Wang, Chamberlain, Mussina and Kennedy.

I heard something along the lines that the BoSox were trying to drive up the Yanks price for Santana and are more interested in acquiring Haren for the reasons you already mentioned....I would be shocked if the A's wouldn't jump at that deal.

No way would I give up Cabrera and Hughes if I were the Yanks. I could convince myself to part with Kennedy, but Hughes, Cabrera, Cano, and Joba are the future, and there is no way I'd trade two of those 4.

As of 3:30, mlbtraderumors.com is reporting that the Yanks are offering Kennedy, Hughes, AND Cabrera. That is far, far to much to give up for Santana IMO. Also reporting that the Mets may be willing to part with Reyes...Should be an interesting couple days.

If the Yankees give up Hughes, Kennedy, Cabrera and have to give Santana a 6 year, $150 Million contract I hope he does end up there--they won't be improving their team, especially if Pettitte retires.

It'd be the same thing that got them where they are now. Trading all their young prospects for aging vets. Hopefully they do it. :D

He'll be a Yank IMO which is great with me.

I would love to see the Reds get him... we can always dream.

On a side note I saw that if they get rid of Santana then they will move Joe Nathan too out of the bullpen.

According to ESPN the Yankees deadline to make a deal has passed. The Red Sox are now the leader and the Twins asked for copies of Jon Lester's medical files. It sounds like the Sox are prepared to deal either Lester or Jacoby Ellsbury along with SS Jed Lowrie and P Justin Masterson. If it is Lester then Coco Crisp would also be in the deal. I like this quote from the article--"If the Red Sox get Santana," said an executive of one NL team that's grateful to be in the other league, "they might be the best team in the history of the frigging universe."

Last I saw the Twins were reviewing the medical records of Lester....It appears they've given in to not demanding Ellsbury and have settled on Crisp.

Although it did sound like the Sox would trade Ellsbury if the Twins didn't ask for Lester or Buchholz too. I really like Lester, he's a bulldog and a great story but I'd trade him for Santana in a heartbeat.
