I understand why he's doing it and I'm not sure who a better choice would be but I don't think that a recuit outside of the state of Nebraska a)knows who Coach Tom is and/or b)is going to get very excited by a visit. They may like what they hear as far as the message being delivered but the messenger isn't going to carry a lot of clout.

 

It will with their parents. I know he hasn't coached in a while but to the parents of these kids, Osborn is a legend, and IMO if he can influence the parents to keep their kids interested it will have an impact.

Technically, no one on the current coaching staff or Osborne may be there after Christmas.

They might have had the ability to talk to these recruits, but from the feeding frenzy I've seen, they weren't or were doing a terrible job of it.

Schools are only allowed 6 off campus visits, in person and only 1 per a calendar week, up until Feb, so not a lot of contact will take place.

 

So most, will be done via phone and thus, utilize the staff available and let the interim A.D., do his job. What's Coach Osborne going to say, that the other A.D. Staff couldn't say...."We still want you and are working to get a quality Head Coach and Staff"

Most of these kids were only 8 or 9 when TO last coached and may not remember watching his teams play but you can bet that they know who Osborne is and what he did as a coach. I think we'll see an assistant coach or 2 on the next husker coaching staff. I know a few of them are really interested in staying and are hoping to stay on staff and thats what they are telling the recruits. We shall find out soon enough.

Ive heard since around Sunday that Bo Pelini was going to be the man. It should be announced on Sunday or Monday after the SEC championship game.

Not surprised in this announcement but not sure, that I like it either. If he's doing recruiting visits, talks and evaluations, is he actively/sincerely looking for a new head coach?

 

JMO but I believe that he is. He imo named himself to get recruiting visits in plus when he names a head coach then that person will he able to go back to the same recruits house for another visit where as if he were the permanent head coach that would not be allowed.

Only one visit by the head coach. Osborned has found or knew of this "loophole" in the system and named himself with the "interim" tag.
