Your Emotional State in a Game

Featured Replies

ouch!

Calm, relaxed, and focused, and I'd like to think I played as hard as anybody on the field.

Never got into the "bang your head" mentality, nor did I need any extra motivation to do what I felt was "my job". Business-like is probably how I would describe my approach to a game, or the mental preparation of the game.

I will say that I felt the emotion of big games (got the chills a time or two), but I honestly don't think it ever affected my play one way or the other.

Didn't talk unless something needed said, which is ironic because my mouth is pretty much running all the time unless I'm typing on here.

Last thing, and I'm just mentioning this because I'm curious about other people. I only remember hearing the crowd one time in my entire football career. I'll keep that one time to myself because its kind sentimental. But I never heard the cheers, the jeers, the horns, the bells, the band, or anything other than the whistle. Actually, I really don't remember hearing those very much, but I knew when a play was dead.:D

pre-game was always a huge part of the mental preparation for me. I always had to be at a peace that my mind was in the right place, and if it was not there, I had to go sit alone until I got it there. It never failed though every Friday before we went out as captains I had to hit the bathroom for one last puke. After I always got that out of my system I was fine the rest of the night. I was never a mouthy player, but if my team was down and I felt they needed leadership I did not care a bit to step up and say what needed to be said.

Now that I look back there is no game like high school football. It gives you the greatest emotions, the greatest feelings you can have in any game.

NERVOUS...

It was only my senior year but every game was like the first one I'd ever played. I had butterflies and couldn't wait to get out there. Once I was out there thou I got in a zone and blocked everything out. If i knew what was going on around me I wasn't in the game thats for sure.

I had one varsity TD and don't remember anything besides being in my coaches arms after the play. In films the next day they told me in was fourth down and I about puked, I had no idea, and I threw the ball so high up in the air it went off the camera..

I wouldn't think you would have been too emotional, given that you would have been 28 if you celebrated your 50th recently? :D

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was 32 not 22 years ago smarty pants.:D

Gettin old is rough huh LN?

My senior we were very good ,and we took a very business like approach to games. I remember my dad getting on me about being a captainand not getting the team fired up. I explained to him that the quieter we were the more focused we were. I always had my thoughts on our scouting reports. We also gave a trophy at the end of the year called the vulture. It went to whoever put the most players out on the other team with big hits. It was always my goal to win this award which I did both my junior and senior year.
