Though I'm sure it drives the coaching staff crazy, it's refreshing to hear of a school putting action (vs. lip service) to "academics before athletics".

I am sure it does drive the coaching staff crazy. You can not be lazy in the classroom. Goes hand in hand.

What will have to happen to beat the number one team. This could be the upset of the playoffs if to happen. The Colts are ready. What do you guys think?

Maybe it won't be an upset, but DeSales certainly is the underdog in this match-up.

IMO, DeSales needs to do 3 things to score the upset:

 

1. Make NewCath earn its points by taking care of the ball and by forcing them to run more than 10-12 plays per scoring drive - NO quick scores allowed !!

 

2. Use its power running game to effect by dominating time of possession, shortening the game.

 

3. Be the better of the two in special teams play.

 

This is pretty generic, however, it is the blueprint to beating a superior team possessing a high powered offense.

 

And yes, it would be a BIG upset...(would apply regardless of who NewCath played in this round)

NewCath hasn't looked great the past two weeks. It could happen. I hope not but if they don't fix a few things it may.

NCC has not looked good and has still won, that should be a concern for Desales.

 

If your DB's are as weak as some say, the offense will strike you like a Cobra and score fast.

 

I finally think the running game is parallel to the passing game, because of Kelly's second efforts, this will be an additional concern

 

IMO NCC has yet to play their A game this year. This even scares me.

 

If Corbin (Who is the 2nd best team in 2A) could not run the ball down NCC's throat, that too would concern me if I were Desales.

 

What will actually happen when the Team puts in a mistake free game.... that should be the real concern for Desales and we all know its going to happen. If not we continue to win ugly. Maybe this team will go down as the ugliest team to win a State Championship. Good luck Breds

To beat NewCath is real simple:

 

1. Hope it rains all week and during the game making it difficult to pass.

 

2. Jump on NewCath early. Everybody seems to score first or they score and then flounder for awhile. They never look excited to play.

 

3. Don't get tired on defense especially in the secondary and don't start missing tackles at the LOS because that's when depth and speed take over.

 

4. Score once on defense and once on special teams.

I'm with you papa, if Newcath plays a mistake free game I don't think anyone in 2A can hang with them. It's really scarey to think of what some of these games could have been like and could still be like.
