Agreed. Along those same lines, the voice of the evangelicals has to be waning. It's not going to have the influence it once did, especially in this election.

Neither Romney nor Huckabee have a chance at this point of winning the election. The GOP's best hope of winning is through RINO Guliani or McCain.

Between the two of us, it seems McCain is the only electable Republican.

McCain will not get the nomination.

 

If I am wrong, and McCain somehow suckers enough conservatives into supporting him to gain the nomination, the media will have a field day destroying his candidacy in the general election. McCaiin will be portrayed as an old man with a history of ethical lapses. McCain-Feingold will be bashed as a failed attempt to reform campaign financing - which is true. All of those who are too young to remember or old enough to have forgotten the Keating Five will be well schooled in that old scandal by the time the election rolls around. Other smaller scandals and position flip-flops for which the media has given McCain a pass (because of his Republican-bashing) will suddenly become front page news.

 

I think that Huckabee is very electable. He is conservative enough to get the base out to vote and he is moderate enough to attract some swing voters. Who among us thought Bill Clinton was electable before the primary season began in 2000?

The evangelical vote is going to go for whoever gets the Republican nomination. But who will get the moderates and independents votes?

 

I would consider myself an evangelical if your talking about social issues . . . I WILL NOT be voting for Rudi if he gets the nod . . . I won't vote or I'll vote a third party before I sell out my values.

I'm not much on polls; but I've said before that Huckabee is a man I could cast a vote for if I thought he could win the general. He still needs to explain his Arkansas tax hikes to my satisfaction.

 

I'm not familiar with the details of his tax hikes. However, isn't it possible that they were sound tax hikes that resulted in either a better economy or solved serious problems?

 

Romney, not politically correct, but I don't think this country is ready to elect a Mormon.

And most of the people that I talk with about politics that would be considered evangelicals have the same concern and have said they will not be voting for Rudy G either.

 

That's all theory right now. It will be interesting to see if they change their minds if Hillary is the alternative.
