I think the country would elect either and very well may elect a female.

That's all theory right now. It will be interesting to see if they change their minds if Hillary is the alternative.

 

Personally and the people I have talked to, it is more about our principles and less about seeing a certain side wins.

I think he's electable, but I think he'd be terrible. So far he's shown an almost total lack of interest in the election. He has some good quips but nothing substantial to say about the issues.

I was excited about Thompson getting into the race. At that time I didn't know much about him. Now that he is in the race I still don't know a lot about him. It looks like his main issue is th U.S. boarders. Although I am concerned about the boarders, it isn't one of my top prioraties, unless it's for homeland protection. I know a lot of people, both republicans and democrats that are anxous to vote for him. Most of them can't tell me why. It makes me wonder if his star power, however small it really is, is the reason. If so I'm glad Rosie O'Donnel isn't in the race.

Best candidate has to be able to draw independents and some moderates. I don't think Newt could have. Too much baggage.

 

I think it would be refreshing to not hear about a Bush or Clinton for the next 4 to 8 years.

What people don't seem to understand when they say that the Republican nominee will get the evangelical vote anyway is that they have to mobilize that group, get a large number of them out to vote and then win that vote by a landslide. That's how W won twice...

 

If anyone other than Huckabee is nominated from the Republicans, yes, they'll probably get the higher percentage of votes from that group, but...

 

1) the number of actual "evangelicals" that vote will be significantly lower and

 

2) the margin of difference will be significantly lower.

 

Bush narrowly won both elections...change the two factors I just mentioned and he loses handily, IMO. That's what will happen to anyone other than Huckabee. There are many who feel just like lbbc and I...they see little difference in Rudy and Hillary. What's going to happen is that a large number will stay at home, some may vote 3rd part if it's an option, and the rest of the vote will be split much more than in the past.

 

I'm not saying Huckabee is a sure thing by any means, but he's easily the best chance the Republicans have of staying in the White House. I just cannot understand for the life of me why that's so hard for everyone to see...it's crystal clear.

 

You never know in politics...one mess up can change everything...or if the media suddenly decides it wants to push another candidate, they could probably change things. However, at this point, Hillary seems to be a strong favorite to win the democratic nominee, and if she does, I think Mike Huckabee is the only Republican who stands a chance of beating her head-to-head. Rudy can't...unless something unexpected comes up, you can write this down. Hillary would beat Rudy by a landslide in a general election.

Neither Romney nor Huckabee have a chance at this point of winning the election. The GOP's best hope of winning is through RINO Guliani or McCain.

 

If you're right, then the real presidential election is the democratic primary.
