11 or 12 game season Top 2 make playoffs. How do you like that?

Featured Replies

I was reading some threads about the playoffs and found myself in agreement about not liking the bad teams getting in these days. I say that we reward teams (good or bad) an extra game pushing us to an 11 or 12 game season. That would generate extra revenue that some teams would lose out on by not making the playoffs. We also could cut down the playoffs to only allow the top two from each district to make it. What do you think?

I think the intent is good, but teams struggle right now to fill 10-game schedules. I can't imagine how difficult finding another opponent would be.

I have no problem with a 10 game season the the first and second place teams go to the playoff's. This would keep from running into basketballseason as the sport's over lap each other every year. It is just a money thing to me that they want all the playoff game's. Just my opinion. JD

We used to play an 11 game season and have fewer teams make the playoffs until the change to four teams from each district in the early 90s. Its not going to happen again. Too much money being made by more teams making the playoffs.

Just pretend the first round is week 11 of the regular season.

Only problem with that is your playing a team for the second time and in most cases the first game was not even close.

IMO the ten game season is just fine. A ten game regular season seems to be the standard for high school football throughout the country. I think the problem is the districts are too small and the first two playoff rounds need to be changed. I do believe that the Kentucky class/district/playoff system is better then some states, Ohio for example, it just needs some tweaking. Ohio uses a mathematical system for its playoffs and teams are in districts with other teams that are not even in the same class.

I think the two top teams in each class should play. I mean these first round games are not even going to be close. Very boring first round if you ask me.

I don't have a problem with the amount of teams making the playoffs (crappy teams make the basketball playoffs all the time)... but they should do away with the district play in the first two rounds. Go back to where you match up two districts. It should also rotate which districts play each year. That way you get better matchups and some of the first round games would be more intriguing even if they are blowouts because fans would get to see a different team.

Plus that would leave great matchups like Bullitt East vs. North Bullitt for later rounds rather than a first round matchup.

The problem (IMO) isn't the # of teams making the playoffs, it is who they are playing in the first round.

I agree, there are a few exceptions like Raceland and Fairview, but even then those are both 6-4 teams.

I would be in favor of an 11 game regular season and the top 2 teams in distrct going to the playoffs. To me (other than playoff seeding) it would make the regular season mean much more. Some districts only have 4 teams in the district so everyone goes. Like said, I am in favor of 2 teams going, that would give a good team the opportunity to still go if they slipped up in a game in regular/district season and still make the regular season mean more. I certainly remember when this system first started that 1 team (District Winner) went to the playoffs, if you didn't Win your district - you were staying at home preparing for basketball season. ;)

I wish for a system where the weak teams stay home and the teams who earned a postseason berth get it.In such a system my Lions would not get in,but then they may do what they need to do to get back the tradition they once had.Football would mean something other than "Let's see how much money we can bring in".

Then move basketball. Everything in this state should not revolve around basketball where if the kids want to, they can pretty much play year round. How about doing the same in basketball, ... only the top 2 make the playoffs? Sound fair?

I agree I don't see how it's fair that every team makes the playoffs in basketball but not in football.

I didn't say I like playing district games again. I like playing the other district like before. But I do like 4 teams getting in.
