Had a good time at the game. A little chilly, but not too bad.

I took a couple of things away from this game.

First, the Murrell kids was a stud! Too quick for the Tigers.

Second, Barnes is WAY too small to be an effective QB in the Tony Franklin System. There is no way he can see the entire field and that is one thing that you've got to have if you are going to run the system effectively.

I'll disagree for this reason ... Barnes has been pretty effective in his two seasons as Caldwell's QB, especially last year when he had a couple of big-play weapons to work with.

 

If anything is holding him back, I would say it's his arm strength.

Maybe he just had a tough night. That's the first time I've seen im play.

Cards looked much better and more importantly they looked hungry again on Friday night. The simplifying of the playbook on both offense and the attacking defensive mindset really helped out alot. I believe that you will see Mayfield open up the playbook more in the playoffs, but they really did not want to show too much as Crittenden County had the week off and most of their players and coaches were in the stands last Friday night. The one thing that Mayfield did do...was to show that even if you bring 8-9 people in the box that we can run against it. I also have to believe that having Ethan Kemp back in the lineup for the first time in three weeks really helped out on the offensive line play.

 

As far as the penaly goes...some of those "holding calls" were pretty suspect..especially after watching film of the game yesterday...and the one face-mask call by McQuiston in the third quarter was just a blown call as the film clearly shows that he tackled the receiver high on the shoulder pads and never touched the face-mask. But I will agree we do have to get better on not getting the costly penalties and must do a better job of taking care of the football.

I heard that Ethan Kemp's head injury was an inner ear infection instead of a concussion, that was great news to hear!! I was more worried about his future life instead of football but its good to hear he will be in the lineup for the rest of the season, is he a senior?

Yes....Ethan is a senior and I will echo the sentiments about it being great news for Ethan as a person and as a football player with it only being an inner ear infection.
