I am so happy for these kids and coaches. It has been a tough year, and to end on a positive note is just awesome for them.

 

I know it was 0-0 after 1 quarter. I guess the offense must have picked up quite a bit.

I'm glad the Jags managed to snag a W. These kids have worked to hard to go winless.

Long road but finally got over the top. Good job. What's next for this North Program? Any changes in the future?

It's hard to tell what's next for the future of this Jag team...many people are calling for a coaching change. So...I guess it'll just be a waiting game to see what happens.

I have no idea what the future holds. I just want these kids and coaches to relish this win before thinking about that. The Jags were young and bring back a lot of talent next year.

He has a lot of young talent and I expect to see big improvements next season. They were only out of 2 games all year IMHO. They have to learn to finish.

 

However, while I hope they keep Abbott as well, there are a few parents being VERY vocal on the negative side. To be honest, I think that negativity had a bad impact on some of the kids during the season. They hear it at home and from their parents after the game then are supposed to forget about what their parents said when they go to practice/games? IT HAS AN IMPACT!!!

 

I said some negative things last year, and to this date I regret those statements. Now I am going to catch some grief for these statements, but I feel much better about them this time. A few of these parents need to learn how to be REAL supporters and keep the kids minds off all this other garbage except doing their jobs at school and on the field. The parents need to deal with this stuff in ADULT settings, not in front of the kids. My senior year (a long time ago) was worse than North's this season. My father never let me hear anything negative about the coach he had a major issue with until after the season was done and I had graduated. He told me later he wanted my focus to be on what the coaches needed me to do and what I had to do, not what his opinion was. His rationale? I would have bosses later in life I didn't agree with but better learn to deal with them or I would never be successful. Focus your efforts towards improving INWARD onto yourself as that is what YOU can control. I now use those lessons to try and become at least 1/2 the man my father is. I have heard parents say 'My kid is transferring to XXX school' or 'My kid should be playing more' or 'playing a different position'. And many have done so IN FRONT OF THEIR KIDS! That is not a true supporter of the TEAM, ... IMHO.

 

I had a relative who did play for Abbott. And even if/when I disagreed with him on something, I never let him hear that. Why? He didn't need to have my opinion (which means virtually zero) interjected into the situation. I know him personally and think David Abbott is a good person who does care about the kids and if I had a son playing football at NL right now, ... I would let him for play for Abbott 7 days a week and twice (if legal) on Fridays!!!

 

I will also say this. Principal Mike Black and AD Jimmy Durham will not be bullied into a decision by anyone. They will do what they think is in the best interest of the program/kids/school as they should.

Good post. I noticed a lot of similar stuff during my time there, and always hated seeing the kids' reaction to it.

 

Whatever becomes of this in the future, I will always consider David Abbott a good friend and a stand-up guy, and will always be pulling for him.

Are the parents that are negative vocalists the clout type or the average type? I know that a lot of things have happened at NL in the past based on the clout parents and what they want or were offended by. Basketball incidents, mostly, but could these parents affect the football program, also???

I believe that you have to be real careful what you say about your kid's coaches. I always try to make them see it from the coaches point of view if at all possible when I hear any complaining.

Couldn't agree with you more. I have heard more griping, complaining, schemes, and just down right terrible things said about Coach Abbott and his staff from parents this year than I have ever heard.. They (the parents)have acted shamefully, and after attending some of the JV and Frosh games, the parents have, at times, been embarassing to the NL program in general...

 

I consider Abbott a good friend, I don't always agree with his decisions, but HE is the coach, and most of the kids I know on the team have much respect for him, not only as a coach but as a person.......

 

I have faith that Mr. Black and Mr. Durham will make the right choice, and won't be influenced by "outside" opinions....

 

That being said, the Jags do return alot of talent for next year. IMO things look bright for NL
