Walton-Verona Football

The facilities, although not yet complete, are amazing and once finished will be one of the better complexes you see. It is more like a public park than a high school sports complex. The football field and track are really nice, and the baseball and softball fields look like they'll be in great condition once the spring comes around.

Wow! How did the student athletes parents let this get passed? I'm not saying it isn't a good thing but they are being discriminated against the athletes because they are playing a sport. What about the other extra curricular programs the school offers? Because they play sports they do drugs and the other students don't. I would have raised a big stink about this to force them to include all extra curricular activities and not just sports.

This same thing happened somewhere in Chicago and it turned into a big law suit, imagine that. A law suit in America.

We had Coach McMillen on the show in week 1 or 2. He indicated to me that they would probably go JV for one more year before moving to the Varsity Level. That would make their first varsity season 09-10. According to him, re-structuring the districts is done every 2 years?? That puts them into 2009-10.

I have to agree about the facilities. The football field was almost done when I was out there last. They were working on the concession area then. Baseball Field, Softball Field, Soccer Field, Tennis Courts & A Cross Country area as well. The Walton-Verona School District should be very pleased with this facility.

They even put air conditioning in the gym!!!!!!!! A lot of alumni are jealous over that one. That gym got HOT:fire: over the summer. I believe I read the volleyball team was playing when it was 100 degrees in the gym.

Congrats to Walton-Verona!!!!:thumb:

I was given bad information on that game, if a mod could change that I would appreciate that.

No generous gifts - just your multi million dollar tax revenues!

They will play a limited varsity schedule and play jv next year. They will be playing full varsity schedule the year after that.

Good to see another school starting Football in the state of Kentucky.

It's the old adage: To be the best, you have to play the best. Sure, they'll take more lumps playing the established NKY teams. But it will help them in the long run, and playing at that level will accelerate their overall development. No offense to the other teams you mentioned; but it would be better for their program to take on the greater challenge.

I am not sure the bolded is true. If a program playing the top teams end up in 50-point losses, kids will lose faith, be made fun of by the other kids in the building and then the coach runs into kids not wanting to play because they are expecting to lose by 50.

I agree with transy that if the choice is between the natural rivals in the other sports and playing in NKY, I take the natural rivals.

Not always true, look at how fast Holy Cross's program developed.

I think, being a Boone County school, their natural rivals are right here in NKY. And maybe they will struggle against teams up here. But if the coaches instill the right attitude in their players, they are going to welcome the challenge.

Basketball is one of the main sports and they are in a different region (8th) than the NKY region. Brossart and Campbell County are in NKY. Would you consider a Pendleton, Mason, Harrison to be more or less their rivals than a Newport, NCC, etc.

Not sure what region they are in come spring and baseball season.

Remember they are no longer in the NKAC. In fact, I think in girls basketball, they are in some sort of 8th region conference Class A size schools. And they compete against those 8th region Class A schools for the Class A title.

The ONLY thing they have common with NKY is geography and compete against NKY for nothing.

And therein lies the problem.

Remind me the last time NKY won the state title in basketball?:D

NCKC Conference and it is 1A and 2A schools. They are also in our region for the Class A basketball in both Boys and Girls Basketball.
