No. Osteen, with his possum grin and "feel good" theology, is an empty suit. The lovely Victoria is his female counterpart. They should sell vacuum cleaners.

Why would you pay for something that should be free? Should someone make money to talk about someone else's work?

I enjoy watching him and he was on Larry King last night. He seems to be a sincere man of God and has a tremendous following. Absolutely massive church.

 

Worth seeing him in my opinion.

I watch Joel Olsteen regularly and truly enjoy his sermons. However, I don't agree with a charge to see him either. Joyce Meyer doesn't charge an admission fee, but takes a love offering at her conferences.

I was going to start a thread on this guy last night but I forgot.

 

Admittedly, I am VERY skeptical of TV evangelists but there's something about this guy that makes me reconsider. I don't know what it is as I've never watched him preach.

I might have to take the wife. She likes Joel.

Not sure of the venue, but I'm certain there is a rental/usage fee for the stadium, wherever he will be appearing.

 

Call it an admission price, donation, love offering or tything but the message he brings, is the intent.

There are some good people on here whom obviously like him. I have watched him and he is one of the biggest fence-sitters I have ever seen. He refuses to address the hard questions, which in my opinion is detrimental to our mission.

Had a long email debate with our senior minister who is still in his 20's, the whippersnapper, today on this very topic.

 

My point is WHO is he trying to reach out to. Seekers, Unbelievers, those who probably are very young in their spiritual maturity or have not even taken a step on that journey.

 

So what is the best route to first reach them? Is it a hit them over the head with sin and going to hell message or the message he goes with?

 

To his credit, he does end every show with the challenge to get into a Bible-based church where those topics are better explored in a smaller setting rather than over the air or in front of 40,000.

 

I am not sure that he is trying to teach the whole doctrine and not sure that he should be trying to teach the whole doctrine.

 

Bill Hybels book, Just Walk Across the Room, points out that we all have a role to play in moving people to Christ. But it is not necessarily the same role. Joel breaks the ice with many of them and gets them to consider Christ. They find a Bible-based church who teaches them the full message and they accept Christ.

 

He might be siimply playing his role to the best of his ability.

If you get a seeker to come to you because you smile and wear a nice suit and say "Jesus loves you," and the seeker then asks you why bad things happen to good people, and you don't answer him because you want to maintain a politically correct appearance; or the seeker asks you if he and his live-in girlfriend can "get involved with the church," and you don't tell him "No" in a loving way and explain why; or if the seeker asks if Muslims are going to Heaven and you don't answer and explain it to him; then you may have lost that seeker forever and I can't forgive the man for that. He is not a donut to tantalize the lost sheep and then leave the real breakfast to somebody else, he is an Acts Chapter 6 apostle of God called to spread the message to the people. Just as you and I don't get to pick and choose which Commandments we follow, he doesn't get to pick and choose which doctrines he can and can't deliver.

But I don't know that. I know he doesn't address the whole message on his telecasts but that doesn't show me what the whole message of his church is and whether it is truly a part of Jesus' church.

I just used two Bible verses that took 10 seconds, if Momma typed them it would have taken 3 seconds.

 

Joel...one night I listened to him and he used no Bible verses in 30 minutes.

 

Paul talks about "False teachers", and I don't think he is one but maybe he needs some more trainning.

 

In the meantime I'll pay attention to my two verses, and I will not go see him.

 

I have written to him and asked him about the non use of the Bible and he didn't return my question. I also left a message on his voice mail.

 

He has a great platform and is easy to listen to....like I said he needs to grow.

More of a motivational speaker but my fiance really wants to see him, so I'll probably be there as well.
