October 16, 200719 yr I don't want them to go undefeated because if they do and make the BCS it just seems completely unfair, stick Hawaii in the SEC and they would finish next to last if they were lucky. Can that be proven? No. Therefore I see no reason an undefeated Hawaii team shouldn't play in a BCS bowl. Wasn't this same argument made about Boise State last year? How quickly some forget.
October 16, 200719 yr Why do you not want them to go undefeated? Because I dont wanna see a team like LSU, WV, OKL beat them BAD in a BCS Bowl! People dont wanna watch blowouts
October 16, 200719 yr I haven't forgotten Boise State but Boise played some people in non conference last year and to say Oklahoma was a raging power last year is a little far fetched. The Big 12 was extremely overrated last year.
October 16, 200719 yr I agree in theory with the premise of this thread. Here's my dream scenario: Hawaii makes a BCS game. South Florida and Boston College play for the national championship. The SEC, the Big 10 and the Pac 10 will all go ape if this is what happens and that's the only way we'll ever get rid of the BCS.

October 16, 200719 yr I haven't forgotten Boise State but Boise played some people in non conference last year and to say Oklahoma was a raging power last year is a little far fetched. The Big 12 was extremely overrated last year. Oklahoma was 11-2 last year, had lost by 1 amid tremendous controversy at Oregon and then lost to the defending national champions Texas, 28-10. If they weren't a "raging power" they were pretty close. Boise played Sacramento State (bad I-AA), Oregon State (8-5), Wyoming (6-6) and Utah (6-6) last season. It wasn't like they had a great schedule. But they defeated everyone. Compare Hawaii this year to Boise: Two I-AA teams, instead of 1. At UNLV, a Mountain West team, just like Utah and Wyoming for Boise last year. Hosting Washington, a Pac-10 team like Oregon State. So while their schedule is weaker, we can't let that be the final arbiter as to whether they go to a BCS bowl. As I said earlier, not many folks are chomping at the bit to play Hawaii, especially at their place. You might not want them in a big bowl, but if they are 12-0, they deserve to be. And I wouldn't be one bit surprised if they beat one of the "good ol' boys" so many of you long to see on New Years Day.
October 16, 200719 yr Is it that hard to believe that perhaps Boston College and South Florida are the two best teams in college football? Argue all you want, but they just might be. What's ironic is that people beg for a system that allows the "little guys" to be a given a chance to compete (Playoff), but then complains when the little guys run the table (Hawaii) and go to a big bowl game, saying they aren't good enough.
October 16, 200719 yr Don't kid yourself. The BCS isn't going anywhere... Wishful thinking on my part, of course. But in any case, who here thinks it wouldn't be fun to watching major conference coaches and administrators moan and complain on national television? I, for one, would be glued to it: SEC Commissioner: WAAAAAAHHHHH!! Jim Tressel: WAAAAAAHHHH!!! Pete Carroll: WAAAAAAHHHHH!!! I get goosebumps just thinking about how mad they'd all be.
October 16, 200719 yr I still go back to comparing scores and while I know that isn't the most accurate way to do things in life 99.99% of the time I really feel like this is that .01% of the time. Hawaii had to battle back late to overcome a many turnovers at Louisiana Tech and at San Jose. Not to mention this is the same Louisiana Tech team that was demolished by Ole Miss, who most everyone would agree is at best the 2nd worst team in the SEC right now. Not to mention Colt Brennan has thrown more interceptions than Tim Couch did in his NFL career. If Brennan had 4 or 5 interceptions against an SEC or Pac 10 team they would loose by 30.
October 16, 200719 yr Hawaii would get demolished in a BCS game. They have nothing to offer besides an offense that puts up gaudy numbers solely because of how much they throw the ball. Boise State last year had a very solid and balanced offense as well as a very solid defense, not to mention a better coach. I for one thought that they had a great shot against OU because regardless of their schedule OU was not that great of a team along with the conference as a whole. Hawaii is overrated, Brennan is overrated and I can only pray they don't make it to a BCS game.

So you are comparing a close win by Hawaii at Louisiana Tech (a game they flew half-way around the world to play) with Ole Miss romping Tech in Oxford? You compare a close win at San Jose State when Boise only won by 3 at San Jose State last season? You say Brennan has thrown several interceptions and therefore they aren't good, even though they've won every game they have played. Is there a possibility that every WAC team Hawaii plays wants nothing more than to knock them from the unbeaten ranks? Is it possible that Brennan's injury is more severe than we know? Is it possible that we just don't really trust the gimmick offense Hawaii runs and therefore automatically assume they aren't as good at lining up and running between the tackles? Remember, people didn't trust Urban Meyer's "gimmick" offense (what works in the Mountain West won't work in the SEC). How'd that work out?

Well now that we are in to year two http://www.firecoachmeyer.com is up and running and people are saying that he only won now with the Zookers players. I know that is a little extreme but I have never trusted a team that throws nonstop and has no running ability. And maybe Brennan's injury is more than we know but should that be a crutch for them, no one will take it easier on them because he is hurt.

How does "you not trusting a team" qualify or disqualify them from being a quality team? Your points were all valid until you let personal feelings enter in.

No one is taking it easier on them. It's just a better way of explaining why Hawaii might not be winning by huge margins; doesn't make them less of a good team.
