Unless Ryle has had about a dozen players transfer to northern Kentucky from Texas and Florida, then I can't imagine T having any problem with them whatsoever. Last year's state final could have been 65-0.

And with Beaumont gone and Nichols still around, X should have no problem with H or M.

Wilson Sears should not have any horses running at 7:30 pm on Dec 8.

Where did yesterday's responses go??????

Trying to be fair to my Trinity brethren, last week's BG Prep rankings have 7 of the 10 on the lower side of the 6A bracket plus the most dangerous team-Shelby County. St X has a very tough Manual Team and an improving Male but only 3 of 10 reside in the upper bracket. Good luck Rocks but landmines are

waiting at week 3 in Henry Clay and possibly Ryle/ Boone( ask Fern Creek about Ryle!) in week 4 of the playoffs. All playoff games at home this year for the Rocks but with an upset of the top seed in District 1 in the first two weeks could result in 4 home games for the Tigers, too based on my KHSAA research.

Injuries can change this tournament at an instant. Tigers have had their share. Both teams have high expectations to be there at the end but the other 30 teams didn't get that memo!

By the way, PRP has scheduled an incredible stretch in week 7,8,and 9 with Manual, Trinity and X in a row. I don't think next year you'll see that with more time to move games around. They will ready if they survive that stretch.

I'm not going to deny it - I agree with jimmyref. The upper half of the bracket with the acception of 1 or 2 games does look a lot less challenging. BUT, let's not forget ..... in a one and done situation strange things can happen.

I find that statement offensive, Joe Nichols is a great coach and while St. X is a great team and could beat Manual in a rematch, it is not because Joe Nichols is a bad coach. How many other coaches have beaten both Male and Trinity in the last ten years? Fact is that Manual is one of the top ten programs in 6A and has become that in a district that until this year had Two of the big Three in it. Joe Nichols and the rest if the coaches do a great job for Manual.

I do not think anyone really thinks Joe is a bad coach. I would say the issue has been more the perception of how many close games have turned out that have involved the big three. I think your statement about what has been accomplished in that old district is very true and only a fool would say othr wise. Most posters think that Joe will continue to lose the close games a majority of the time due to again the perception of bad play calling on O or D at the end of close games. This could very well be his year to prove every one wrong. I like X in the rematch only because they are playing the best D of all the teams I have seen this year in KY.

I guess the way I see it we were close in those games in the first place because of the coaches and players, where most teams would not even be close. It is kinda like the San Diego Chargers, everyone said their old coach could not win in the playoffs so they got a new coach, now they can't even win in the regular season. Fact is Trinity, Male and St.X have had great teams and I would say Manual has done as well as anyone against them, Manual did not lose to them because of bad coaching, there has been many reasons several bad audibles in closing drives, blown coverages and big plays made by great players on the other team. Fans only see results not behind the scenes. That is my opinion. Besides most posters on that hold that opinion are the ones that see Manual as a threat and are eager to discredit what progress has been made, people fear a big four...;)

Manual has never had the better team against St X or Trinity. I find it ironic that he gets disrespected because he hasn't upset the X and T programs "enough" in his five years of coaching.

In regards to the original question. I think both teams are better than those they will face to the finals. Sure, I think Manual is capable of beating St X but I don't think Manual is nearly as good as St X either, if the Crimsons win, it will be an upset. If St X does what they should do, they really don't have a hard route to the championship.

I think a big four would be geat. At some point Manual will win these games more often. Good luck

Thank you! I thought I may be losing my mind....:jump:

Where are Chris West or Rodney Francis when you need them?:D

Jim Vesel, Steve Haag, Jerry Mayes...so many great coaches.

"Team" is the key word when discussing the Xaverians or St. Matthews Catholic. Manual has possessed more than enough talent to defeat the larger privates, including this season. As has Henry Clay, more often than not.

It's fun to poke at Coach Nichols. He is truly a thorn in the private schools' side because Manual does have room for many CSAA athletes every year and they offer an outstanding educational program.

I've always said, you can't beat free.

I am glad to have Manual in St. Xavier's district. They have been a very tough opponent over the past few years. A play here or there and they get that big win everyone is looking for at Manual. Coach Nichols has them there it is a matter of execution by Manual and their opponent. You can not put it totally on the Coach. If I am not mistaken this is a young Manual team this year and will continue to make some noise. I think the belief factor is what is lacking and it is getting stronger. I have a feeling that Manual is really looking forward to a rematch with St. Xavier this year.

Back to the question at hand, in any other year with I would pick Manual above to stop a St. Xavier Trinity rematch. However, I think the St. Xavier defense is too tough this year for that to happen especially with Manual potentially having to come to Brother Thomas Moore Stadium for the rematch. So I pick Henry Clay as the most likely to prevent a St. Xavier Trinity rematch this season. I do think Trinity will most probably beat Henry Clay. I just think this will be the toughest match up of all.
