Years of accumulation! In the 1970s and 1980s there were only 8 teams that made the playoffs so one win put you in the state semifinals. That's what happened in 1980.

 

Owen County failed in the opening round the two years before, losing both seasons to Madison High. The Rebels wouldn't return to the postseason until 1991 when the format was expanded to four teams per district. That season they lost to Bardstown and then lost the next season to Washington County.

 

The last two appearances for Owen County was 1997 in another loss to Bardstown and then as a Class AA member in 2001, losing to Fleming County. The good news is, in a four-team district, Owen will return to postseason play this year.

There were some good teams that didn't go to playoffs back in those days. We were 9-1 in 1979 at Carroll Co. but the loss came to Bath Co. which would have sent us to the playoffs.

So Paris is out of the playoffs?

Oh, I know! It was next to impossible for some schools to make the playoffs back in the 1970s and 1980s.

I am gonna go out on a limb here and say that Owen takes this one. I could very very easily be wrong but for some reason I like the underdog in this one. But they obviously can't post another goose egg this week like they did last week to take this one.

Umm that is a tough one! According to the stats James Clark had 48 tds and Lanie Fomas has 44.

James career yards rushing are 1547 and Lanie's are 1014. Both were very good RBs. James will always be remembered though, and be a legend for RBs at PHS. He was in that early 80s era. Lanie came along mid late 80s.

And when you talk about Paris' RBs, you have to mention Jamale Clark, he was a "Horse".

Man was he tough. I can remember him packing Louisville H.Cross defenders down the field on his back.

 

But back in the 70's I think a lot have forgotten this great one, none other then, Manzell Robinson. Manzell is probably one of the "toughest" and best Paris has ever had.And for those that have forgotten, one of the hardest hitters ever at Paris was Donald Ray Frye. (same era) I couldn't leave out the Defense! (my favorite)

Well needless to say they seems that they have been struggling to put points on the board. Seems to me if you hold a team to only 3 points all night you could at least get one in the endzone for 6.

No, Louisville Trinity holds the record at 50 from 1988-1991. Paris is currently fourth on that list.
