Lincoln County leads the all-time series 14-8. Interestingly, the Patriots only lead 6-5 in games played in Stanford.

Of all the above games in the series that one was the one that has always stumped me the most. I was Senior at Boyle that year and I never understood how a Lincoln team that was that talented (albeit inconsistent that year) could lose to that Garrard team.

 

It was a great rivalry at times but I'm like others, I don't see this game as that close. I think the Pats will win by 28.

One thing I do see differently for Garrard this year is overall team speed. Their skill players especially look more athletic than they have the last couple of years.

 

I don't know why the program has struggled the past few years in Garrard. For a small school, they used to be talented. I would like to see their coach succeed over there, he seems like a good guy. I just worry he may be running out of time.

 

On the other hand, the job French is doing with low numbers and a serious lack of speed and athleticism is simply nothing short of amazing. LC is fortunate to have him.

Lincoln. Easily.

Ryan Young for LC could be considered as the best athlete/player in the area, if not that, definately in the top 3, in my opinion. He has great speed, great player. Personally, I'm tickled to death for HIM, not the rest of us (ex:Mercer) that he decided to come out for football again...haha, just kidding. He's a good basketball player, but he'll have his entire college paid for if he decides to stick with football in college...because I can promise you he will have offers. Anytime you mix raw athleticism, along with great SPEED, then that's a dangerous combo. :thumb:

 

He's a big difference maker.....so, there not that short in the speed and athleticism department.

I agree, Young is the exception. He and Spicer have good speed. They don't have the overall team speed they have had in the past. Young is a great athlete.

The influx of speed has been very helpful to the Garrard program. Two brothers moving in from Russell Springs last winter have paid huge dividends this year. Also, a few kids for Garrard have realized their ability and have began playing as such.

 

Garrard had an unbelievable pipeline of talent come through during the 1990s. Coach Jerry Perry did a great job of getting the absolute most out of those players. Keep in mind, too, that Garrard County was a big Class A school at that time and their district was terrible, outside of Harrodsburg (and Lexington Catholic, although Perry never lost to the Knights). Perry finished with a record of 65-18, with nine of those losses coming to Harrodsburg and Bardstown.

 

That weak district bred confidence in the Lions and they annually knocked off bigger schools during the non-district portion of the schedule. For instance, take a look at some of the teams Garrard played during that stretch (losses are in bold):

 

1990: Owen County, Casey County, Boyle County, Madison Southern.

1991: Madison Southern, Marion County, Washington County.

1992: Madison Southern, Marion County, Washington County, Clay County.

1993: Madison Southern, Marion County, Estill County.

1994: Madison Southern, Marion County, Estill County, North Laurel.

1995: Beechwood, McCreary Central, Shelby County, Rockcastle County, Madison Southern.

1996: Russellville, Monroe County, Shelby County, Rockcastle County, Madison Southern.

 

I think most everyone would like to see Coach Stonebraker and the entire staff succeed for their sake and the sake of the program. They're all good guys. It just seems that Garrard County is almost always a hot-and-cold team. Some nights they will look great and some nights they will look not so great. Its that lack of consistency that befuddles most fans in Lancaster, and probably what has led to a 38-36 record over the last 6+ seasons. If that can be corrected, and it can (the talent level is increasing along with the school population), then Garrard will have much more success.

 

And while there are rumors constantly about the coach's status, I don't see him going anywhere in the near future unless he makes that decision himself.

Garrard is a very young team. Their two best athletes are Fred Hayes and Tyler Ray. Both are sophomores. The squad includes 18 sophs and only 11 seniors and juniors combined.

Braxton Miller and Trent Calhoun were as good, if not better than any RB's/Athletes to come through Lincoln County. I think you could make an argument that Michael Penman, Jeremy Simpson, etc. might have been better...who knows...noway to tell, either way, all of them were very special, Miller and Calhoun included.

 

Back on the topic of Ryan Young, but he also could have played and been a difference maker on any of Phillips or Jaggers' teams.

 

I'm just glad another great coach has been able to come to Lincoln County to utilize the talent and hard nosed kids that Lincoln is known for having, and turning them back into a winner, again. Best of luck tonite to both Garrard and Lincoln!
