Keep kicking them while they're down, because of all people, you know they won't stay that way forever!!

Right now, as was the case in the Ludlow game tonight, Brossart has two enemies - our opponents and ourselves.

 

Things are tough enough, and then we seem to compound them by making mistakes that lead to opposition touchdowns.

 

Case in point. Tonight we fumble the kickoff - Ludlow recovers and a couple of plays later are in the endzone - 7-0. Brossart then gets intercepted and a couple of plays later Ludlow is again in the endzone - 13-0. Brossart goes three and out and a few Ludlow offensive plays later, score again - 19-0, still in the first quarter.

 

Second quarter Brossart gets some momentum when we block a punt, recover the football and take it in for a touchdown. A successful 2 point PAT converstion later and its a 19-8 game, Brossart is fired up and play competitive football for the remainder of the half, until with 1:35 to go in the half and Brossart on the march we are intercepted and twenty seconds later administered a coup de grace when Ludlow scores again, making it at 25-8 game, and still with forty some seconds to go in the half the Mustangs get intercepted again, after which Ludlow scores yet again - two touchdowns in the span of one minute and thirty-five seconds. Game, set, match - Panthers 33-8 at the half.

 

In order to become somewhat competitive we (Brossart) are going to have to find a few things that we can do well, and try to eliminate the assisted suicide stuff. That may sound like a duh statement, but it is absolutely true.

 

We can't afford to take another team's best shot, and help them out by making fatal mistakes too.

 

This is by no means being critical of our coaches or our hard-working players. It is merely a statement of fact. It seems that each game we walk away thinking that it shouldn't have been that bad.

 

I guess that we will eventually grow into ourselves and look back in amusement at our early efforts, but right now we've got two opponents - the opposition and ourselves.

 

Hats off to Ludlow. They simply outplayed us, and with our cooperation made it look easy.

Mustang makes good points. Sometimes the best pass is the one you don't throw and instead take the two yard loss and live to play the next down. That is really hard to do when a team is constantly playing from behind because kids and the coaching staff want to make plays.

 

It doesn't just happen to inexperienced teams. Plenty of teams have this problem.

Trammel with 4 touchdowns, in the first half. Great game for him. I believe that would put him leading in recieving touchdowns now with 8.

Also very good points APNW. As most know football is a sport where to be successful each player needs to handle his assignment, and let his teammates do the same; and if all are successful, the play succeeds. Trying to do someone elses job ususally results in breakdowns, and the old adage of players "trying to do too much".

 

I agree that its hard not to try and do that little extra to make something happen; but usually that results in disaster. This one was tough since this might be the first game where BB wasn't totally "outsized", and seemed to matchup fairly well sizewise with the Panthers. As Mustang said though they shot themselves in the foot at the outset, and as usual found themselves fighting an uphill battle.

 

They MUST eliminate the mistakes and miscues if they hope to play a competitive game this season, and the schedule isn't getting any easier as after Eminence comes Dayton, CAL and Gallatin. Best of luck to both teams the rest of the year!!

I heard the QB Zack had a great game, and that is good to hear. Because hopefully this will be the game that gives him the confidence he needs to do well the rest of the year!!

Zach played an excelent mistake free game tonight. A lot of his completions were to wide open recievers though so give them credit. Especially Tyler Trammel who seemed to not have anyone near him all night going for his 4 scores. :thumb:

Maybe because the mustangs called all their defensive checks towards Logan.

But yeah that's all it takes is for someone to score when it least expected... 4 times. :lol:
