With GRC record most people out side of Clark Co would have predicted the same. We here in Clark Co knew the tallent of this team.

Finally! Cards get first win

The wait is over.

The George Rogers Clark High School football team snapped a six-game losing streak and a seven-game skid dating back to last season with a 35-18 win over Shelby County on Friday night at Cardinal Stadium.

The Cardinals’ defense stopped the Rockets high-powered offensive attack, led by Alex Matthews, who threw for 555 yards in a 57-54 loss to Louisville Manual in his last outing last week.

Clark (1-6) forced four turnovers and used an impressive goal-line stand to fend off a scoring attempt by the Rockets (3-3) with six minutes remaining. Matthews threw four consecutive incomplete passes and turned the ball over on downs.

Congratulations to the Cardinals!

 

I was stunned when I saw the box score. Not knowing Clark Co.'s program it's good to hear the team has been able to maintain the focus and bring it all together for this game.

 

From the box score it appeared as though Matthews had a resepectable night and his percentage was good. It was also obvious that SC doesn't have a running game. The turn-overs apparently played a big part, very impressive to read above in the thread about the stop at the goal line.

Congrats to the Cards!!!!!!!!!! They came and played to their potential and showed it.

 

Shelby's Mathews had some big numbers. He is very poised and is an excellent QB. I do wonder why they didn't use their big back more. #20 did a great job too.

 

Cards defense stepped up and played hard! Offense was spectacular. Ryan Williams was the star of the game. T. Conner is getting his game on track, and is getting some big gains. D. Mason looked much improved last night, and it was great to see him hitting hard in the secondary for a couple of series.

 

Scott Co in to weeks (at Scott Co) will be one of the toughest tests yet. Son of Bear said they were extremly physical.

 

Keep focused and enjoy the off week. I know you will be looking forward instead of living in a "once in a decade" game like some Homers.

Thanks you so much. I am so happy for our kids too. Knew that we had the tallent..just finally came together tonight. GRC did not have a fumble or a interception.

Great play by Ryan Williams and his TD's tonight. That kid can run. Michael Clark had two interceptions that were huge. Zack Hardiman played a great game. Tatum Lewis also had some great plays as did Travis Connor.. These are just the names that come off the top of my head right now....but it was a total team effort tonight. QB for Shelby Co is a great athlete. Love to watch this kid play.
