And thanks. We've been here when a hurricane hit at Destin. It's NOT fun! Scary as hell, truthfully. Right now, it appears to be mostly a flooding rain event; but it's strengthening, and unpredictable. It's like being in a closed room with a giant spinning top.

I think you should try some stone crab claws or, if it wasn't king crab legs the first time, you should order them to night. There's a few little tricks to eating crab legs that takes most of the work out of it, and they're just too good not order again.

Good luck down there and be safe. I know right now, tropical storm or not, I'm jealous. I can't wait to go back down there just to see how much it changes from year to year. Are they progressing with the shopping center across from the pier? And did they ever fix that pier after the storm a couple years back?

 

As for a place to eat, you're down there a couple times a year, I'm sure you know of all the joints. However, don't go to Dirty Dicks. The price is high for what you get, and it's not that good. For fall of the bone ribs, go down to Boar's Head. After 4 nights of seafood, I needed at least one night of BBQ. BTW, check all around you before you leave.

Ironicallyy, we were just out on the pier today. It's part of the tradition, even though we rarely catch anything.

 

The Dan Russell Pier is still about half it's original length. In fact, there is a part still standing, but it has a huge hole in it, and no railings; so it's condemned. The pier is scheduled to be demolished sometime in the next several weeks. It will be rebuilt and reopened in 2009. We're kind of bummed about that, because we won't be able to use it next year.

 

The shopping center has sprung up out of nowhere since we were here last year. They have many of the bbuilding structures up, as well as some of the facade work. Although the structures are more or less hollow, you can get a real sense of what the project will look like. Let me tell ya, it is HUGE!! :eek:

Just ask PH....he can't take me anywhere to eat. Most of it ends up on me or in my hair. I am not great at keeping food off of me. He likes that we eat at home 99% of the time so I don't go around looking like I should have brought a bib!!! (or trying to cart a snack off) Even the little things that are not supposed to be messy ends up leaving me looking like I have not changed clothes in a month!! LOL LOL....
