Are we not supposed to be thankful for the blessings in our lives? What is wrong with a person receiving a blessing and thanking God for it? If they cannot thank God, should they not thank their parents either?

I have NO problem with thanking God for the blessings in our lives. I do get a little offended when people start thanking God for ball games. I think God has better things to do than decide who wins a ball game. Also, there is an implication that if God is responsible for you're win, there must be some reason you were thus rewarded. Besides, if God was picking the winner of every game, Trinity and Notre Dame would never lose! I would prefer to see people thank God for the many blessings of their life, but not for a ball game, emmy etc.

Humans marching under banners of their own making are prone to do anything, that doesn't make it faithful with the teachings they claim to defend.

 

Show me anywhere in the New Testament that Jesus instructs His followers to kill in his name and I'll concede your point. Otherwise, you're just stirring the pot.

:thumb: I don't agree with you on many things..........okay on nothing. But I definitely agree with you on this.

If it weren't for this thread, I would never have known she said this. I can't remember the last time I watched the Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, etc. I just can't stomach watching celebrities patting themselves on the back. And to add to that, the Southpark episode where they skewer George Clooney about his "smug" acceptance speech a few years ago is a must see for all of you who hate awards shows.

I see it more as the athlete having a mass opportunity to thank God for the blessings of their lives and the talent he blessed them with. A witnessing opportunity.

As much as what she said was offensive, I will always give her the right to say what she wants and thank goodness we all have that opportunity. What I find appalling is that "stars" think that "we" are so short on brains that we have to have them tell us what to think about the affairs of the world. What I found more offensive was what Sally Fields said and no I won't repeat it. When accepting her award she was obviously protesting the war (which I protest myself) but it was a word that she used that ruffled my feathers. I did not watch the show, so what I have seen has been what the news stations have reported.

I would say if a celebrity used the word to describe African Americans that is greatly offensive to them, they would be lamblasted for it. Think Don Imus. And yet, they can get on the air and do something as they have done about God and Jesus and Hollyweird celebrates them. People defend them. People think they are great. That should give you an idea of the mindset of so many in Hollyweird.

Not assuming that as I fully believe that they are not. Just if they are and want to thank God for their blessings, what is the issue?
