Great point LMB. The times Bell beat Rock in the regular season Rock never made it to the rematch in the post season therefore only giving Bell one win. Also when Rock beats Bell it always a close game but when Bell beats Rock it is handily see 2004 score.

 

Rock is a great program and has played some terrific Football for about 7-8 seasons.

 

I would first of all say that this is one of the greatest rivalries in Kentucky High School football anywhere in the state period. It will be a dogfight and either team has a shot at winning this game each year no matter what their records are. These teams work all year for this game and the bragging rights it brings.

 

With that said though I can't agree with the statements above. Rockcastle has had a very strong program for over 20 years not 7-8. It just so happens they spent several years prior to 1999 in 2A and did not play Bell. They have 21 straight winning seasons if I am correct.

 

Second if you look at the record since they moved back to 3A Rockcastle has defeated Bell 8-12 times and 5 of those have been by a margin greater than 2 touchdowns. Bell has only defeated the Rock by more than 2 touchdowns 2 times. See the record below.

In the 8 years since moving back to 3A the Rock has made it further into the playoffs than Bell 7 of the 8 years with 2004 being the exception. Sorry going off of memory. But I knew that all the games where competive except the 2003 and 2004 Bell wins in which Rock never made it back for the re-match.

Well with the History and Math lesson out of the way let me be the first to say , records are made to be broken, and History is the past. It's 2007 and football time in Bell County. Friday Sept. 14 on Log Mountain will be a taste of a Bell County team that you will see go all the way within the next couple years, maybe more than once. Bell will take the W for this one. With what Bell has now and coming up, we are in for a wild ride to the top !!!!

I agree with you that this is a great rivalry not only for Bell but for Rockcastle as well. Rockcastle has Madison Southern because of being 15 miles apart but in reality Southern has never beaten Rock. This game is a defining point in both teams season. But regardless of the outcome of this game both of these teams will be serious contenders in 4A come playoff time.

 

On a side note I do think it is funny that people say history is not important when it is not in their favor. Just look at Boyle Co at 0-3 but still ranked. Ask people why and they say well they have a history of success. History is history and I never said it would effect this game. I just wanted to correct the statements made by the previous posts. I actually beleive this game will be close and be won by the team that wants it the most.

That is quote is seriously over used way too much and no team just plays 11 guys in one game. Either way I wasn't making an excuse, just making a statement. Two years ago Rock had 27 players dressed at Clay County and scored 60 some points. I realize it doesn't mean anything.

3wishes you are correct. Many people don't remember a team that the Rock fielded back in 1983 that was one of the funnest teams to watch in the Rock's history. They lost to Danville in the playoffs when our starting Quarterback went down to injury. They fielded just 30 players all year and were dubbed "The Dirty Thirty". You don't have to have 60 players to win but injuries to key starters can change the outcome of a game.

Whoever loses this game will surely go down fighting. I have a lot of respect for both programs. Both teams are coached to give 110% on the field, so this will be a game of all games to see this season. This will have a playoff atmosphere and maybe a district championship on the line. I believe that Bell has the most experience, but you can't count out the heart and passion the Rock kids play with. And the Rockcastle coaching staffs work ethic will hopefully pull them through for a victory.

As for the prediction, I have seen both play this year, and I don't think it will be close. Bell has a pretty special team this year, and Rock is down from recent years. I don't think it will get ugly, but I think Bell's JV may break a 4th quarter sweat
