Public/Private Not a problem in BBALL

I have never understood why your athletes and coaches outwork and are more committed than everyone in football but don't work hard enough and are not committed enough in basketball.:D

I am going to answer this serious...ok...don't be shocked. :D:D Football has pretty much always been king at T and X. Now I know back in the day (the 50's :lol: , X had some very good years). But the bottom line football was always more important. That has changed over the last couple years...more so at T. I think it is more about an attitude than work ethic. I think that for many years T/X believed they could not compete with the publics. I do think some of that mentality has changed and these programs will improve in the future.

Great answer and honest question.

Let me say, I have zero clue on the beginnings of football and basketball at T and X. In fact, my total knowledge comes from BGP and our (TD, LBBC and RM) discussions on it.

That said, how did it get to the point that football in a basketball crazed state was more important than basketball. Did it start that way? Was football king of the hill from first day on? Did basketball start first, saw they weren't competing and the focus went to football?

I think back in the day for X, b-ball and football seemed to be pretty equal. As time went on it appears that football became more dominate. In my 25+ years of being around T...football ruled. But again I think that has really changed over the years...in many sports.

Also for the record....back in my day at Sacred Heart..we never won championships with the exception of field hockey.

Interesting. Thanks for the information.

On the latter, are you saying an upgrade in talent from those days to these days is the reasoning for state championships at Sacred Heart now?:D

I don't know honestly....and you know me...I say what I think and know. :D

What I do know is if T/X starting winning in B-ball...all crap will hit the fan!:laugh::laugh::laugh:

One great thing about Kentucky basketball is it is dominated by the public schools. If you look on the national level, most of the elite basketball programs are private schools. I'd say the 2 best public bball teams in America was Scott Co. and Huntington, WVA. I'll be honest, if 2 schools are playing that I don't really care about and 1 school is public and the other is private I am probably going to pull for the public school.

By the same token, if it isn't Trinity I won't pull for either team. Basketball is just something that happens to be played after football season, at least in my frame of reference.

This post is just pure trash and garbage. My guess is that you know very little about Highlands, but just want to assume the worst. There are lots of people on this site that like to tear down the best teams and programs to make them feel better about the state of their own teams and programs. You just placed yourself in that category.

Was Derek Smith a Silver Grove kid?

I thought I remember his sister playing hoops at Silver Grove.

Just curious.

Nevels a SK kid?

Just curious.

So should Smith have attended Silver Grove and never played football (which got him a full ride to college)?

Isn't Highlands an independent school district that accepts students from other districts? Couldn't Smith's next door neighbor that played the tuba go to Highlands because he wanted to be in a marching band?

Why couldn't Smith make that long (what maybe 3 miles) trek from Silver Grove to Highlands everyday if he wanted to?

I am sure he made the right move.

SK not have football?

KHSAA just turns its head to most of it because when they do rule a kid ineligible their parents get a court injunction.

All about winning baby.

More to athletics than winning. How about a kid who busts his tail to get a chance to play at his or her home school and another is brought in and plays over him or her?

Real fair for a high school kid.

The member schools voted to seperate the privates and the publics and KHSAA Board of Control cowered to money.

X and Trinity game is their cash cow.

So why would they try to enforce rules on those two schools?

Of course I'm sure that you have evidence that X and Trinity have violated rules, right? Is that more of the pudding you were talking about earlier?

If our schools are in violation of the rules and you have evidence to back it up outside of hearsay, please I beseech you to turn it in to the KHSAA! I don't want my beloved Shamrocks skirting the rules laid down by the KHSAA.

School district boundaries are not purview of the KHSAA, those are decided upon by the individual districts. For my part I never understood why people don't want to give parents a choice in where their child attends school. Of course it might have to do with my living in a major metropolitan area(by KY standards) with multiple educational options with specific programs for students with different abilities. My viewpoint might be different from someone living in a rural district with only 1 high school in the county. Even so, should those of us who have the options that I mentioned above forego said options because others do not have access to them?

Just throwing that out there.

It was shown on here and I believe in the Herald Leader that the Sweet 16 on the boys' side is the cash cow for the KHSAA. And a reason why we won't have classes in basketball.
