As a fan of Loony Tunes,The Herculoids,Space Ghost (NOT COAST TO COAST),Tom and Jerry,Top Cat,GO GO Gophers,Bullwinkle,UnderDog,etc...I personally think cartoons died when they quit being entertainment...I can't exactly pinpoint a time..the only cartoon in the last few years that I have found REMOTELY entertaining is the Angry Beavers.

Again, in MHO it was when cartoons became extended commercials instead of entertainment in their own right.

 

And what was with the "robot phase"? There were Transformers, there were Go-Bots. My son even had Voltron (Defender of the Universe) sheets on his bed, for crying out loud.

I watched Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles quite a bit when I was younger.

Cartoons started down a slippery slope when some dip wad decided that Road Runner was too violent for children and was a bad influence on them. I can't remember how many times my order to ACME for an H-Bomb or Rocket Powered Rail Riding Chair were returned because I didn't put enough postage on the envelope. Japanese stuff + transforming robots + political correctness killed cartoons. The old WB stuff on Saturday mornings was great. Do any of you remember the afternoon cartoon program after school put on by Channel 36 in Lexington, the had a puppet named "Froggy" that always called Dawahares ....doghairs. They showed great cartoons as well, that would have been in the mid to late 70's. (Geez I'm getting old)

Cartoons died when all the Japanese garbage came about. Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc.

 

Agreed, the Japanese are allowed to write, direct, produce, and film these movies but PLEASE don't put your culture into them.

IMO, the kids cartoon died when they started to humanize them, Like SpaceJam. Liked the movie but no way Mike had moves like Taz.

Saved by the Bell help kill cartoons.

The Looney Toons and Tom & Jerry are the best cartoons in history. I could watch Bugs and company all day long....and have when the Boomarang Network used to have the June Bug marathons.

Most of the new cartoons over the past 20 years are not for me. Too gross, not funny, too far 'out there'.

I love the Boomarang Network and The Cartoon Network also. They are more entertaining than what's on now.
