I'd go with McGahee. I think he was frustrated in Buffalo, so he'll give a better performance and effort in Baltimore. He's still young and he's talented. Plus, the Ravens, as many have noted are a run-first team that won't be playing from behind like Miami likely will. Plus, from what I've heard, they're hoping to use McGahee more as a receiver out of the backfield, which is one reason they wanted to upgrade to him from Jamal Lewis.

 

But, here's the real deciding factor, and think real hard about it:

In the three years he's played since coming off the ACL injury, he's played 16, 16 and 14 games. I don't see any reason to expect him to get hurt.

I would take him then I didn't keep up with him after he came off his surgery. I had forgot about the oline he was running behind.

I would not consider that the deciding factor, while Ogden is very good, maybe one of the best ever, he's on the back side of his career. Since this is a keeper league, you have to look beyond this year and next. Odgen may only play 2-3 years. McGahee will be around 5-6 yrs.

 

I look more at the offensive scheme than I do the actual lineman. Baltimore is a run first, run some more and then maybe pass. Miami was a more balanced team and not very good at either. But with the new scheme, it seems that they will probably lean towards the passing game this year and in the near future.

Being a keeper league, you have to look at more than just this year. Breakout this year, brokeback next year. Look at the scheme and coordinator/coach philosphy. I'll take a back in a run first scheme before I take a back in a "balanced" or "passing" scheme. Unless you're talking about LT or Steven Jackson.:thumb:

I think McGahee is more likely to boom. I think he's more talented. Another thing to consider is team management. The Ravens (Ozzie Newsome) have shown themselves to be pretty good as Baltimore has been a consistent contender for some time, while Miami hasn't had much success. Will that change?

 

It may be the wrong choice, but when I weigh all the information, I think it points to McGahee. It's not a certainty, but I say a probability. Also, McGahee is less than 2 months older than Brown, so age and wear and tear isn't a factor. Both are young and have a few good years ahead of them barring injury, but IMO, McGahee is in the better situation.

I think it's a toss up would probably lean towards Mcgahee since he's on a contending team that should lead plenty of games with that strong defense. If it's a PPR league Brown has more value, plus Cameron's offensive game plannng intrigues me. Mcgahee is the safer bet, he's a better runner than J Lewis and he has some success for the Ravens.

Actually, Brown has only averaged about 10 more receptions per season than McGahee, so that shouldn't be a huge factor. Plus, if the Ravens actually involve McGahee in the passing game as they claim they'd like to, the difference may be even less.

 

When all things are considered, McGahee makes more sense regardless of what kind of league it is, IMO.

I'd say you'll be looking at the likes of Westbrook, Rudi, R. Bush, R. Brown, and T. Henry around with the 9th pick.

 

Guys like Brown, Mcgahee, Maroney, and pretty much any QB or WR will probably be around with the 16th.

If you want to take a chance and you think Reggie Bush is ready to explode, then you should snag him with the ninth pick.

 

For my money, Westbrook is the best of that list, but he never plays the full season. When he does play, he will score more points. You have to weigh if that's worth more than having Rudi give you consistent production every week. And, you have to decide if you think Bush will exceed what Westbrook does because they are very similar style players.

 

Westbrook's value went up in my book last season when the Eagles really committed to running the ball more and he showed that he could handle that and get tough yards between the tackles. I expect them to continue that this season along with his receiving prowess. I give him an advantage over Bush right now because there is no Deuce on the Eagles roster to take carries from Westbrook. I think they're all good picks in that spot...

 

Rudi - safest pick, least upside, but you pretty much know what you're gonna get

 

Westbrook - scored 11 TD's last season with the Eagles committing to running game, I think his numbers will be at least as good as last year and likely better, but there is always injury concern

 

Bush - the biggest upside of the three but also the biggest unknown, plus the fact that McAllister gets a lot of carries and most of the red-zone carries may keep him from completely exploding in fantasy numbers...he's a very intriguing pick

 

Travis Henry - was pretty impressive in Tennessee, so you have to think he'll excel in Denver, if he produces like some past Denver backs he could be a bargain at that spot

 

Ronnie Brown - just not seeing him on the same level as those other guys...and obviously, I think McGahee is a better pick than Brown, and honestly, I'd take Maroney ahead of Brown...if he doesn't get hurt, Maroney could be a stud and also a bargain at #9
