I attended the season ending banquet for the club over the weekend and was very impressed with what I saw .There were about 300 parents ,players and fans in attendance for what turned out to be a very humbling experience for a large number of people there .

Every coach got to go up and talk about his OR HER team the accomplishments for the year and give out awards .The kids all seemed to be very well taken care of .With age groups from 9 to 18 it was very neat to see ,at least for me .

These teams put together impressive records for the year ,yet stressed that was the least important thing .I kept hearing the coaches state "getting the kids ready for the next level was the goal .

The 18 year old coach came up last and stated he was excited about the direction of the club .Being the creator and former president of the club you could tell he was a little choked up .

The coach was then stunned ( I believe ) when it was announced the club was starting a scholarship fund for players going on to college .It was named after him for all of his hard work and dedication over the years .Having been involved with the club for 7 years now and considering this man my friend it was a tear jerking moment for me .

13 of the Bluegrass Chiefs players are going on to college and more were expected to sign soon .That brings the total of players on to college from the club to 162 .

Kyle York ( Ludlow ) and Chas Moore ( Beechwood ) were honored with the first scholarships .Good luck to all of these young men .

The club also is involved in community service .At the moment they are collecting money for a young boy with terminal cancer .His mother has had to quit work to care for him .

Outstanding and this is a wonderful idea, of the scholarship. Not many organizations, can say they help both on and off the field.

 

I applaud the efforts and encourage more, to do the same.

I forgot to add the 3 rd member of Bluegrass was drafted in the latest MLB draft .Josh Lueke to the Texas Rangers .He is currently in the advanced rookie league .Keep working hard Josh .

Actually Coach G..Lueke did so well in Rookie league that he was moved up and is currently pitching for Clinton in Class low A....Awesome to see him doing so well. I have talked to him recently and he seems to be loving the experience right now in pro ball. The Texas organization likes him and it is looking like he will go play Fall/Winter ball to get some more work in.

Is this the same Chas Moore that quit the baseball team at Georgetown College last year?

Correction. Chas Moore never quit at Georgetown. He did choose to leave at the end of the year but he in fact did not quit Georgetown. There are a number of players who did and who do so annually. But I know for an absolute fact that he did not quit. He didn't play much for coach Hagen, but that is a whole other kettle of fish.

He started the season on the Tigers Baseball team and played quite a bit.

He did not finish the season as a member of the Tigers Baseball team. Now whether you call that quitting or not is left up to you. But he did leave the team for whatever reasons before the season was over. The Freshman OF from Beechwood also quit the Georgetown team last year in the middle of the season. Moore was used primarily as a Pitcher for Coach Hagen and didn't get much of an opportunity to play defense.

Moore could have played a bigger role for them He is a OUTSTANDING player. I have had the chance to coach him. As for this thread Bluegrass is a AWSOME program to be in and shows if you surround yourself with "QUALITY PEOPLE" you will do well!

Good points. How do individuals make these teams? It's time that Baseball starts getting more recognition in the state of Kentucky. We do produce more professional baseball athletes than we do any other sport.

In regards to the Players or someone organizing a program.

 

Players - usually try-out and the coaches select based off a roster number, they want to keep. Often, from the local area but others, will travel and stay with a family/host during the summer.

 

Organization - several are American Legion, business sponsored or private, in conjunction with player fees. Not cheap but often worth the time, for improvement in Baseball related skills and player promotion. Summer competitive talent, is outstanding.

 

I really like the Scholarship idea.
