Death Valley Bowl

Featured Replies

This will be the 10th Year for Lincoln County's Death Valley Bowl. Garrard County's only appearance came in 1998 and resulted in a 24-14 win over Newport Central Catholic. Washington County will be making their first appearance in the DVB.

Lincoln County, the host school, has appeared 9 times and has managed only 3 wins (1999, 2002 and 2005). Bell County has never played in the DVB and the two schools have never met in football (other than camp for several years at Feltner 4-H camp in London).

Lincoln Co. just recieved three new additions to the team yesterday in practice. Ryan Young, Devon Denson, and Noah Keeton should help the patriots in my opinion. Ryan and Devon were previous starters from last years season.

That is great news for the Patriots. I had heard reasons ranging from "my heart's not in it" to "I want to get a baseball scholarship".

Young an Denson will make an immediate and noticeable difference in this team. I am very happy to hear this.

Where have they been? Others have been working hard all summer.

I'm tired of the Denson-Young saga. Play or don't play. They've both joined the team and quit on more than one occasion now. Lincoln needs them and I'm glad they're playing, but they should have been there all summer. Hopefully they weren't immediately plugged into the first team.

The ? is have they had the mandatory 10 practices in yet.

These seems to set a bad example for others!

I don't know the entire story, but it does seem to be a bad example for the younger players, especially since they've missed the bulk of the hot-weather practices.

Can someone tell me how to get to the Death Valley Bowl coming up from Bell County?

Sorry my son, you can't get there from the log mtn suburbs:lol:

I would imagine that this is a tough situation for a coach when a player knows he is good enough to start, and uses it to take advantage. Of course, the questions the coach needs to ask are:

Is that the case with this player? (according to the above quote, it is)

Will that player's talent help enough this year to overcome the potential downfall that could follow as a result of letting him play (why would others in the future put all of that effort into it when they know if they are good enough, the spot will be there for them)

Do you make an example of the player and risk the chance of more losses now in order to prevent it from happening again? (you are also denying them the chance to play, although they brought it on themselves)

Basically, it boils down to win now (with the extra talent) at the risk of the same thing happening later, or take your lumps now and win later (if you haven't alienated fans, players, etc. by keeping them from winning now. Even though it's not really your fault but the players, rest assured you will get the blame)

Fun times for a coach because a few stud players (I assume) don't care about the team like they should (and more than likely don't realize the predicament that they have put the team, coach, program, and themselves into)

Go to Somerset on Hwy 80. Turn right (north) on Hwy 27. Go about 30 miles, the field is right on 27 on your right.

You can also go up I-75N to the 1st Mt. Vernon exit and take 150 all the way to Stanford and turn left at the 1st red light. School will be on the left.
