OX mentioned several player names in the positive section of his thread regarding the scrimmage but no names in the negative section. Is this the season that Glaser looks at a sophmore to be the QB? Receivers having issues catching the ball!!!!! Maybe there are some better receivers in the sophmore/junior class who would love a chance to excel.

I would think so....Zoeller struggled on some of his throws early, but I look for that to be fixed by the time the season starts....he is a gamer.

Not going to happen.

Not going to happen.

Consider the source. Insinuating that HS kids should be called out in a negative light in a public forum is ridiculous.

Also, this is not the first attempt made to infer that there is trouble in Tigerland at the QB spot. Anyone that truly knows anything about St. X football knows that Ben is our QB and we're glad to have him there. As RP said, Ben is a gamer & he will be fine. I know for a fact that Ben has been meeting the staff's expectations in practice-I heard it straight from Coach Wags mouth just 4 nights ago. In addition, right behind Ben is a very capable Matt Brutscher who is a Junior-not a Soph. Apparently these views were formed while watching the Frosh scrimmage on the diamond-"from out in left field". :fire:

How big and fast is Jack Hilt now? I coached him all through middle school and he is one of my favorite kids I ever coached. Great kid and great family! It's exciting to see that he has reached the level to be one of the great LB's to play at X!

Jack is up to 6'-0" and 215 lbs now and is one of the strongest players on the team. As you probably know, Jack suffered a season ending ACL injury last year but he did not let that get him down and he is back bigger and stonger than ever. Look for Jack to have a great year.

Good post. I noticed Villa T did not rake any Trinity players over the coals regarding the Scott Co. scrimmage and that is the way it should be.

Ben Zoeller will be the QB this year, take it to the bank. The coaches, and more importantly the players believe in Ben. Ben is one of the most athletic players on the team and he spent the spring and summer playing baseball as he has the potential to play baseball at the next level. He is just now getting his football legs under him but he will be ready for the season opener.

^ Hey guys, know that I am not painting anything negative, I am a fair judge for both of our squads..

How did Seth Harvey look for X?

Anyone??? I noticed someone mentioning some d-line being out with injuries, is he one of them and if so what is the extent of his injury???

Don't worry, Seth is fine, and for now is playing strictly one-way at right offensive tackle. He may potentially see some time in the future as a defensive tackle in goalline defense. He definitely has a bright future, and will be a major component of our offensive attack. As with all of our offensive linemen at this early stage, he's going through a learning curve. Needless to say, we are glad he's back. :thumb:

I think OX called the kid out, maybe not by name, but everyone knows who he's talking about. RP said Ben is a gamer and he also said Duce was the least impressive RB. :sssh: I'm just saying X has gone back and forth at the QB position, and sometimes a change isn't bad. I like the "Deer in head lights" quote.

I was at the scrimmage and was not at all impressed by the passing game of St. X.

Question to all: Have you ever been impressed with the passing game at St. X?

St. X uses the pass mostly to keep you honest. They occasionally go one on one fly pattern and try to out athlete you on the outside. Otherwise the passing game is unimaginative and ineffective for the most part IMHO.

St. X is definitely a run first, run second, run third, pass only when and if you have to team. That said I think the quarterback that is first on the depth chart at this time is the best and right choice.

I guess I am a little old school, I still enjoy St. X's offense. I may not always agree with the play selection or the field management, but hey that is what makes being a fan fun.

Does anyone have some details on the St. X./Fern Creek freshman scrimmage (who played what...how did both teams score...turnovers...running attack...passing attack...kicking game...defensive plays...positives and negatives)? Is the 30-26 score correct? I found myself too involved with the varsity and did not have an opportunity to watch any of the Baby Bengals performance. Come on...I'm starving for info! :jump:

Ox, not sure who scored on offense, but there seemed to be a lot of depth and talent at running back. Passing game needs some work. On defense, the D-line and backers played well, Matt Spalding had an INT TD return from his outside linebacker spot. In the secondary, Matt Wilson had an INT and fumble recovery I think. Daylen Hall made some big hits. We did give up a couple long pass plays but they were basically deep balls that were throw up for grabs and FC had an athletic receiver who out jumped our guys.

Luck I would agree that the passing game is lacking but for what X does and does to everyone year in and year out very very well I would say Glaser is correct in what he does offensively. Having said that I would look back to the 04 regular season against Trinity when X used the short passing game to purfection. This made the running game that much better. If you look back to the great seventy teams again the short passing game(TE) was very powerful for that Offense. Anyway JMO on X but I think for X to reach the top again they must be effective with the short passing game.
