August 10, 200719 yr I never have seen LaRussa show so much joy as when Ankiel hit the HR. He was tearing up Memphis with 30+ HR and 89 RBI. They would have called him up earlier but he was out of options. So once he is called up, he will have to stay. I agree, when I saw the highlight this morning, he was acting like they just won the World Series. You could tell just how much he cares for this kid.

August 10, 200719 yr good article from the St. Louis Post Dispatch http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/columnists.nsf/berniemiklasz/story/864FD31A4AAD7D3686257333001B1026?OpenDocument
August 11, 200719 yr He hit 2 home runs today and made a great catch late in the game. He is 5-12 with 3 HR and 6 RBI, what a return for Ankiel.

August 12, 200719 yr He's obviously been taking lessons from Edmonds on how to misjudge a ball off the bat and then make a highlight reel catch As a baseball fan, I'm glad to see Ankiel's comeback going well.
August 12, 200719 yr He's obviously been taking lessons from Edmonds on how to misjudge a ball off the bat and then make a highlight reel catch  Do you watch Edmonds on an everyday basis? He gets as good as a jump as any CF in the game. Even though he is in decline he is still a good OF.
August 12, 200719 yr I do and I've seen him circle in and then back and make a nice running over the shoulder catch when he could have caught it facing forward. Not every play, but it happens. Watch Ankiel's path and angle on today's catch.

Watch Ankiel's path and angle on today's catch. I agree with Ankiel's catch today, horrible path. ON Edmonds, he plays the most shallow CF of anybody so it would be hard for him to come in and go back on too many or it would be late to get to the ball. He is the one of the best catching the ball over the shoulders.
August 12, 200719 yr Ankiel didn't have the best line but he was in right field and the hitter was right handed. So the ball is going to be fading.
August 12, 200719 yr This is really a great story. I'm not a Cardinals fan at all but I can't not root for this guy.
