My family lives in Leitchfield. I know about some pretty wackadoo groups down there, one of which is listed on the SPCL site.

The fact that you are apalled by the the klan being in the state says you didn't know that. I know full and well it is alive and well here and in lots of southern states, a report doesn't mean anything. I lived in Louisville and in general most folks there didn't seem to know what goes on in the rest of the state, at least thats what I got from most folks I talked to. You should look back on the history of Marshall county sometime, I think you would be floored, lol.

No, what I said was that I didn't know that the klan was so large in Kentucky. I was surprised at how the 2nd largest Klan organization in the US is in Dawson Springs, KY.

I've seen enough Klan representation in Louisville rallies to know they're here.

 

Maybe some folks don't know, but I guarantee it's not most folks.

I saw a Klan rally in Middlesboro a few years back. Seems there were a couple of junky looking old cars and a redneck pickup (big tires, chrome roll bar with fog lights mounted on it) with confederate and Klan flags mounted on the bed. They just cruised around the mall parking lot while most just ignored them. Not very impressive. I think most Klan groups are like this.

 

The skinhead and white power groups are the ones that look dangerous but that could be because I've only seen them on TV and I'm sure coverage is of the biggest rallies.

While living in Jacksonville a "festival" called Hammerfest came to town. They weren't allowed in Daytona Beach because of the nature of the bands peforming. So they picked a very bad part of town on the Westside of Jacksonville where the population is mostly African-American. It was an all day of event of bands promoting hate and racism. Thankfully there were plenty of police on hand and nothing happened aside from the ridiculous message they were spouting.

 

As awful as that is, I can only imagine how many bands/groups are out there promoting this. Just horrid.

I agree, fascinating. And surprising. I've always associated hate groups with poverty and backwardness, yet look at Eastern Ky. Not a single group listed east of I-75.
