Boyle County question

Featured Replies

I just checked the Advocate Messenger online and saw where Larry Vaught mentioned in his article about Ben Slone's mother being appreciative of his comments and that Ben could be in a BC uniform next year if "changes" are made. Can anyone clarify what those "changes" might be. I am not trying to get anything started but it seems like Larry Vaught isn't reporting the full story of what is happening at BC. In his original article he also mentioned that several other players did not go out for the team this year as well. It appears to me that a disturbing trend is taking place at BC, but no one wants to speak on it. I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on why BC seems to be losing stars instead of making new ones. I understand it's hard to stay on top when you have won 5 championships in a row, but it could get really ugly if some of the best and brightest for BC don't even play. I'd just like to know why no one in BC wants to play football all of a sudden.

I will dig up some info on this one.I hope He has a Great reason for not playing, because Playing High School Football is a Once in a lifetime thing, and It goes by way to fast.;)

Wasn't there some issue last year were BC parents were meeting with the school administration to discuss the football situation?

Its disappointing that the mother could not just say he didn't want to play rather than insinuating that the coach (I'm assuming) is the problem.

Sad state of affairs. High school football is such a great experience.

Slone aside I think this line from the article is the real story: "Several other players also did not return off last year's 6-6 team, but Slone is the biggest loss because of his productivity last year and future potential."

Why are several other players not returning? What is going on at Boyle County?

Seems to be a sad event for a proud program, I hope it all gets worked out.

I heard that BC was getting back on track for a great season this year. The frosh squad was impressive last year and many of the JV players are muturing into some real talent. Perhaps that's the reason why some of the seniors to be are leaving... They also picked up another coach that many BC faithfull seemed to be pleased about.

The new Asst Coach is A X ADmiral Player.

In this link there is reference to Macon's offer by UK during his sophomore year. I thought NCAA rules did not allow offers of this nature with a player until July 1 prior to his JUNIOR year. Can someone clarify this?

Offers can come anytime. USC basketball coach Tim Floyd just offered a JR kid a scholarship which he also did last season.

The rule you reference regards actual contact with a recruit.

I watched Boyle County practice yesterday and they appear to have a few talented players. I think they'll probably have a winning season.

That'd be nice as long as they lose to BG and beat Catholic I'll be happy. I just remember how things were last season and I know kids that quit and now it seems that more kids are quitting and I was looking for more input on the reasoning of the exodus from the football program. The fact that Slone's mom said "changes" kind of threw me off. What's really going on?

Yeah, I hope these kids don't miss out on high school football. I'd like to have slone over at Mercer.
