They must have left a little early because Cawood dominated the entire second half of the scrimmage. See ya on the 24th.

 

 

No sonny they stayed for the entire scrimmage and while I was not there I think that the assement I gave of the play you are referring to is very close to what happened. If as you say Cawood dominated the second half, I would find that hard to understand because I don't see the Trojans being able to compete with any of the teams that were at this scrimmage. I still think that they will be much improved from the last few years, but that is still a long way to go to be able to stay with the teams in their district. As for the county they will be either the 3rd or 4th best team in a four team pool. (not very impressive)

Sounds like you may be getting your info from a kid. Trojans moved the ball extremely well against all 3 teams. Both times they went against Leslie they did pretty much what they wanted on both sides of the ball. The 1st time they went against S. Laurel they moved the ball well again scoring with Westfelt on the option. S. Laurel completed 3 T.D. passes on their possession but they wer only playing on 40 yards of field. Again against Hazard they moved the ball well and Hazard scored on their last play as C. Howard had a pick six that was tipped in the air and caught by a Hazard player. The second half of yhe scrimmage was totally controlled by the Trojans. They first went against Leslie, scoring twice and Leslie scored once. That makes it 3-1 Cawood for the scrimmage against Leslie. Next they go against S. Laurel and totally man handle them. Jamie Ball was a man among boys. S. Laurel would be negative in yardage. Again Cawood does what they want offensively and scores twice with Dylan Smith make the run of the night as he takes the pitch on the option, tite ropes the sideline, weaves in and out of defenders and hurdles a defender into the endzone. Oh, Yeah that made two hurdles for TD's as TJ Green had done a similar move against Leslie. Yes Cawood struggled in the secondary the first time against S. Laurel. However, that was fixed.

How do you get your misinformation? I tell you what. If Cawood does not beat Harlan by at least 3 TD's I will buy you a steak dinner. I know you 5th grade coaches don't get paid real well. Then you can find out who I am. See ya on the 24th.

didn't see one, had to work, ok sonny your on that is Harlan is getting 18 points in the Rax Bowl for a steak dinner. If you win you are invited to come to my home and I'll cook for you, and we will eat anything that you wish.

 

I wouldn't take any pay if I were offered, just trying to give a little back, for all the people that gave of there time when I was coming up.

HDE I was wondering if you had the same viewpoint as Sonny, I admit that I was using second hand info but that person has seen a lot of football in the last 20+ years, and most of the time they are right on. Looking forward to our dinner plans Sonny, either start saving or start fasting, you decide.

They did struggle in the secondary and had trouble with the option at times. They were also very active, quick and aggressive on defense and had several backs who ran very hard.

 

At worst, they played even with a pretty good Leslie County team and got to the quarterback two or three times.

 

They ran the ball on South Laurel but couldn't stop the pass. They also didn't finish off tackles a few times, except for Ball, who could be one of the best linemen Cawood has had in a long time.

 

Cawood had trouble blocking Campbell (No. 5) in the Hazard scrimmage, but I'm guessing everyone in District 7 will have the same problems.

I wasn't at the scrimmage but i have been around long enough to understand that many things factor into the outcome of these srimmages. Many coaches use this as a way to develop depth and to see who can and can not be counted on. If i were to guess i would say that there wasn't a team that played full strength at Leslie on Friday. Coaches seem to mix and match especially during the 1st one. I have heard both good and bad from the trojan fan's so like many teams they probably are somewhere in the middle.

Be very careful to base anything on the 1st two scrimmages. About the only thing you can tell during these type games that will factor in to games won later in the season are things like Team Speed, Attitude, Are they in Shape,

Strength up Front, Aggression, Tackling ect.

As for Harlan's scrimmage with Knox and the Gap, I have basically heard about the same thing. Everything from good to very bad so again they are probably in the middle also. It isn't long now and in less than two weeks both teams will put the best product out on the field for everyone to see. It is coming and it won't be long.

:eek: LB, can it be we agree again??? Most of the time you don't see the final product in these "mini-games", but only the coach trying personel various places, etc. The Trojans are due, all things being equal. The Big Green have the home field advantage. With the coach issue, the last year for the Boys from Troy, this game will be more emotionally charged than ever, which could lead to any one of a million outcomes. Neither team, though need to see it as a "season defining" game. It has been a disaster for Cawood to be in that mindset the past few years, it could be equally as damaging to the Dragons if they aren't victorious. Should be a doozy.

Yeah I've at least 7 times that Cawood blew all of the other teams out of the water Friday. HA!

If you are a player you want to win everytime you walk between the lines but this game isn't anymore special to the insiders at Cawood. The ole all the eggs in the Harlan basket and all that are simple not true. The reason the season goes down hill after a Harlan loss is because the two teams play in different leagues. If Cawood can't beat Harlan and beat them soundly then they can't compete with the teams in their district. It is simply two different levels of football. I say this not as a knock at Harlan but to illustrate my point. I understand all the issues about size and this and that and a lot of that is true. However, with the rare exception of a single year of about 10 Cawood needs to handle harlan to reach many of their goals. Just remember my comments and look back at the end of the season. If Harlan beats Cawood ---Cawood will be lucky to win one district game and finish between the 1-9 and 3-7 mark. If Cawood wins by 14 or less look for them to grasp at a 4 place finish. If Cawood man handles Harlan in all aspects of the game look for a number 2 and a chance at the district title. ------Just wait and see

Seems logical. I think you are right for the most part, although to a young team, emotions may factor in a bit more, just due to maturity. Don't worry, LB, bet we have lots more to agree to disagree about this year!!!

OOUCH! ----- That is a big statement with only one scrimmage down.

LB just thinking that Cumberland will be the best , then probably Harlan with Cawood then Evarts. With only four teams thats the way I see this year playing out, Cawood is just very young, they will be improved but I still think that they would be a year or so away in normal circumstances but with the new school that seems it will be ready everything will change. Hopefully for the better, but with a bigger school brings bigger challenges, such as the step up to 5-A, HCH can't expect to play smaller schools when these things come about.
