Songs You Wish You Wrote

Featured Replies

The title says it all. When you listen to a song and say "Wow, I wish I wrote that." For any reason, whether you think it's just a good song or it resonates with you for some other reason.

For me, off the top of my head:

Black - Pearl Jam - I wish I wrote it, played it, and sang it. Pretty much stellar on all counts.

Dancing in the Dark - Bruce Springsteen - I love the lyrics, I could do without the synthesized stuff though.

Scar Tissue - RHCP - Sometimes quirky lyrics but they still have some form of meaning, at least for me, and the music goes with it perfectly.

Amazing Grace would have been a great song to write.Wasn't it written by a guy who was lost at sea.I remember hearing something about that but I can not remember all of the facts...

Live Like you were dying -- Tim McGraw

Crazy -- I believe Willie Nelson was one of the writers for this Patsy Cline song

Almost any James Taylor song

Movie about it the writer of it out this past Feb/March. The writer was a slave boat captain who changed his life from that trade around the writing of the song. Not sure of the exact story.

I also liked the movie Amazing Grace and Chick. Anyone remember it and what NBA player was Amazing Grace.

I'm sure you have heard the story since EVERYTHING about the Beatles has been covered to death over the years. But John Lennon wrote that song specifically to thumb his nose at critics. He was so sick and tired of everyone over analyzing everything he did that he figured he would write a song that INTENTIONALLY made no sense, just to watch and see the reaction.
