Who looks the best in 6-A in Western Ky?

Define "to be reckoned with."

Not to be pompous but last year Henderson was the representative that played Ryle in the semis and got beaten pretty handily. Ryle then got beaten 41-7 by Trinity.

Just wanting an idea of what to expect.

Apollo will have enough talent to compete with Marshall and Graves in Region 1...As far as being a contender to win or compete for a title, no, but, just that they're capable of upsetting the favorites on a given night.. I wouldn't take too much from the Hendo win last year... I know they got there and earned it, but, WCentral, Owensboro Sr and Christian Co were much stronger teams, just didn't come through when it counted.. thats not a knock on Henderson, just a fact...

We won 3 out of the last 5. Owensboro did about what Henderson did to other teams last year outside of Apollo (Evans. North?). Take out the 4th in the first meeting, Henderson was better or equal in both games. Although it will be hard to match what Duffer did in the region, we will be a completely different looking team with more size and speed in a couple of years. It might be a long season next year though.

Who was the last "great" Western Kentucky 4A/6A football team? Maybe Warren Central 2003?

I'd vote for Christian County, twice in the 1980's, the 2 years they were 4A state champs

I like Christian, but at the end of the day can ANYONE compete w L-ville.

Christian isn't in 6A.

my posts was just directed at the posts by centerrocks asking who was the lasts great 4-6A team from out west and I think it would have been those two state title teams from Christian Co. A long time ago but they were the champs those 2 years and they were in the 4A class.

As for current or recently thats another story

In reference to the last great teams that have come out of the West in 4A, I believe that two Western Kentucky teams in the last three years could have won the state title. First, the 2003 Warren Central team referenced above did indeed fumble on the 1 yard line against St X. Absent that fumble, Warren Central would have prevailed in the game. As it turned out, X won 13-9. Additionally, Warren Central had a first-team all-state wide receiver who was unstoppable-Lonnell Dewalt. Unfortunately, from the Warren Central perspective, an already cold evening turned nasty with a freezing rain. That shutdown the Warren Central passing game in the second half, and in my opinion enabled St X to prevail. X lost the state title game that year 17-14. Although not always accurate, a comparative score analysis would indicate a close game had Warren Central made it to the state finals.

The 2005 well coached John Hardin team was also as good as any team in the state that year. I believe that they had lost only one game going into the quarterfinals against St X. They dropped a hard-fought contest 21-20. X lost the state title game that year 14-6. Again, although not always accurate, a comparative score analysis would indicate a close game had John Hardin made it to the state title contest.

Each of those teams, in my opinion, could have won the state title.

I don't consider John Hardin to be a western Kentucky team, but that's another isssue entirely ...

Otherwise, Diogenes is completely on target.

I wasn't really being sarcastic. There about 20 or 30 years of history to support my statement. Take Henderson a couple of years ago. They pretty much ran through Western KY, and were whipped thouroughly by St X.

For a Western team to even play Trinity they first have to survive the west, then it would take an almost perfect game to beat most likely St. X or Male prior to even facing Trinity.

That may be a defeatest additude but that's the reality of the situation

Anytime you play the bigtime teams in thiertown, it would behoove you to play a near perfect game. What has hurt Henderson is simply numbers. Your not gonna beat Male, St.X ot Trinity with 35 players. Simple as that. It will likely be a lean year for Henderson Co, but if new coach Clevenger will hit the halls, the youth football leagues & work at it, things can change. The 2004 team of Will Fidler could beat anybody in the state that year, except any of the big 3. NUMBERS!!!!!!!!

This morning on WSON they said that Cobb had already interviewed a few assistants and had actually hired Steve Towe. I would guess Clevenger would give Josh Boston a look as well. He played for Cumberland in college (not sure if Clevenger was there or not then) and was an assistant for Duffer last year. Josh really knows the game and would be a great asset. He also has been the one to keep the kids going with weights and work outs since Duffer resigned. It looks like Clevenger runs the same offense as Duffer. I believe Clevenger is working a camp at Troy University for Tony Franklin so I assume he runs that offense. If so this will only help the transition since the Henderson kids know this offense.

Dont count him (Clevenger) out...he turned Lincoln around w athletes, French let him go, give him 1-2 years ... they will go hard on the offensive end

Marshall Co will most likely be the team to beat..they return the RB-Williams, who, should get a few Mr Football votes before the years done and they have several key linemen returning...Graves was also young last year and return quite a few starters from last years 8-2 team, but, unless they somehow develop at least a little bit of a passing game, they'll be pretty 1 dimentional.. There defense should be pretty solid... Henderson lost quite a bit and with the coaching situation, I look for them to step back a few notches.. Apollo may also be a team to be reckoned with..

Could be a good coaching change.

Here in the far west I would have to say that right now it is a tossup in district #1 as all teams have some question marks coming into the season. Henderson County has a new coach and system and will be interesting to see what kind of numbers that they have out this year. Marshall County also has a new coach, but return star running back Alan Williams...key question mark is how healthy QB Stephen Barga is after his injury in last years basketball season. Graves County has to replace their top offensive playmakers including their quarterback and leading running back from last season...but their defense should keep them in enough ballgames to make them dangerous...especially if their offense can find some type of firepower this year. Madisonville not sure on their situation, and Daviess County was young last year but improved as the season went on...so all in all...should be a very competitive 1st District in the new 6-A alignment.
