Somerset Coach Jay Cobb resigns..

Off the KHSAA website they have scores posted for the past 10 years. He was 78-38, made it to the Class A final four three times, but never made it to the finals. Not sure when he came to Somerset, but he did coach at Webster, which borders Hendo, before he went to Somerset.

From '06 back he was 9-5, 12-2, 5-6, 9-3, 5-6, 9-3, 10-2, 10-4, 4-7.

The job was at Henderson County, word around there is that he had applied for the job and was the most likely candidate. According to a source, he turned his resignation paperwork into the administration office at Somerset this morning. I have talked to many of the Somerset senior players and they are not happy. Coach Cobb was well liked by the players and fans. If this is how it plays out, their will be many disappointed players and fans.

Congratulatations to Coach Jay Cobb. He will do a great job at Henderson, as he has done at Somerset over the past several years. Cobb is from Webster County, and he also coached there. Now at Henderson, he'll be close to home to go along with an extremely talent riched school.

Coach Cobb will do a good job at whatever school he may be at. I recall his days at Knott Co. he was a success there before Somerset, Knott has had very little sucess since he left.

Is this a good hire for Henderson if he is in fact heading here? I know nothing about Cobb. I was hoping the committee would target someone that had success at a larger school.

 

Cobb has been known to take mediocre programs and turn them into regional contenders.

HC has won three of the last five regional titles, so they are accustomed to that. They have only had about 30-35 players on the team, and fans have been critical of the program for that. Did Cobb have a sizeable roster at Somerset?

Cobb is good at getting players out. We have averaged 35-40 kids on the roster for the past 4 years.

Will Coach Lucas now be the head coach at Somerset. I know he has been a long time assistant there despite leaving for a couple years to be head coach at Lincoln County.

Coach Lucas does not desire to be a head coach.
